Senator Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said Sunday that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is "in a pickle" arguing against the president's health care bill because he passed a similar version in Massachusetts.
"He prescribed this. This was his bill," Schumer said on "Face the Nation." He noted Republicans "have ads saying it's a tax increase. Are they going to say, 'Mitt Romney had the biggest tax increase in Massachusetts?'"
"Mitt Romney is in a total pickle here," Schumer said, arguing that the Republican Party is in a tough position: As polls suggest the economy is the top priority of voters, he said Republicans are making health care a top issue in the election, while Democrats in Congress will be focused on job creation.
"The Republican Party's in a box, the Tea Party's pulling them over to just talk about repeal," he said. "They're going to vote on a repeal of health care, litigate a battle that has been going on for four years, and we are going to put on the floor a small business jobs tax cut."
But on the same program, Senator Tom Coburn, R-Okla., said health care is very much a part of the economic discussion. "I think it's extremely intertwined with the economy. And I think it's an example of where Washington doesn't get it. One of the reasons we don't have significant job creation is the federal government itself," he said.
"We're approaching the health care problem the wrong way. As a practicing physician for over 25 years, the one thing you want to do is fix the real disease, not the symptoms, and the

The GOPe didn’t steal anything from anyone. As bad as Romney sucks, we the people picked him.
The biggest problem was that we conservatives had to bash and destroy every other conservative running for President who was not our personally annointed pick.
We systematically destroyed Bachmann, Perry, Newt, Santorum. On this very board, nearly every single day there were multiple new threads bashing each of them. We looked for every single flaw, real or imagined, and then magnified it to the greatest extent possible, and we did so happily and with fervor.
Then, for good measure, in the debates and in the political ads they ran, they totally trashed each other as well. They didn’t just point out policy differences — they attacked with personal, nasty half-truths.
The predictable end result was what we wind up with today. A squishy nominee who will most likely see to it that the Kenyan is reelected.
Sadly, based on what I still see on here most days, I don’t think we learned a thing from it either.
LOL. Yeah, Chuck he is in a REAL pickle, opposing the most unpopular piece of national legislation in many many decades.
How do I know Obamugabe is in trouble? He has his Chief of Staff Jack Lew and the safest ‘rat in the Senate, Chuck the Punk Schumer, out defending him. Notice there aren’t any so-called middle road ‘rats out there.
No Jon Tester. No Bill Nelson. No Claire McClaskill. Why? Because all three of those Obama butt lickers are up for re-election with people who know Obamugabe’s Death Panel Law sucks.
Just why isn’t chuck s in Leavenworth getting the “pickle”?
Who shall I write in or vote for?
Must be some real bad Polling for Democrats
Yes and if the people of Massachusetts like to pay taxes so be it.
Nah, it was a UFO - using zombie mind control on primary voters.
And Chuck You Schumer became someone we believe in... when?
I don’t know. Wrestling with that myself. The only thing I know is I won’t be voting for someone who promoted abortionism, homosexualism and big government statism during his entire time in office.
“The GOPe didnt steal anything from anyone. As bad as Romney sucks, we the people picked him.”
I don’t agree.
Romney was nominated for a reason. We did not have a better candidate to oppose him.
Everyone out there was seriously flawed. Yeah, Newt’s the smartest guy in the room, but we all know he would have totally shot himself in the foot by now. Anyway, there was a lot of animosity towards Newt from his last go round...deserved or not.
Romney ran a smart campaign and he’s still running a smart campaign.
He’s light years ahead of Obama on every issue.
I’m not really sure what the point is in some here joyously abetting Obama by jumping on every real or perceived flaw in Romney.
Do you all really want to give Obama four more years?
You will be very sorry if you somehow succeed in doing that.
FWIW, I’m supporting Romney. He wasn’t even remotely close to my first choice, but I have always used the Limbaugh Rule even before it was the Limbaugh Rule — always vote for the most conservative candidate in the race.
In this case, between Romney and Obama, it clearly is Romney.
If he wins and doesn’t govern like a conservative, then we can try to defeat him in the 2016 primary. I would much prefer doing that than climbing out of whatever ashes are left behind after a second Obama term.
Schumer can go suck a pickle. There’s a Weiner joke in there somewhere.
It’s worth a lot.
You are so right. Hey, he wasn’t my first choice either, he was my third choice. When it got down to him, Santorum and Newt, I was for the guy I thought could beat Obama and I believed that to be Romney.
I’m not nearly so pessimistic about him as some here. I think he’s talking to the right people like John Bolton on foreign affairs and Paul Ryan on the economy and I think he will do an excellent job on the economy.
The rest of the nation want to be free. It's up to every state.
Another mendacious Democrat.
explain please.
California will vote for OStupid so its not like you live in a swing state. No offense, as I understand what you are saying, but you could vote for the libertarian and Obama will California.
I can always move away from Taxachusetts and still be an American. There is no place to run from Obamacare except to join a protected trade union or become a muslim or Amish and get an exemption.
