How Did You Celebrate Dependence Day?
07/01/2012 | Self

On June 28, 2012, many in our nation celebrated our newest federal holiday: Dependence Day. With the declaration that the ironically named Affordable Healthcare Act is constitutional and, therefore, above further legal review on the same day, our nation has changed course away from the direction set forth by our founding fathers. Two hundred and thirty-six years earlier, these great men proclaimed that the American Colonies deserved freedom from oppression by the distant English king and his domestic supporters. Their words formed the bedrock of our nation and culture, providing the inspiration for our people to rise up and unite against a tyrant. Once our nation achieved independence, these words provided the resolve for our ancestors to form a nation like no other in human experience.

In the present, our words have lost meaning and are redefined as needed to ensure that desired ends are met. We debate over the meaning of “is.” The word “tax” was not spoken during congressional debate and presidential ratification until this word was deemed necessary to ensure that the Affordable Healthcare Act can be ruled constitutional. The fictional characters of Screwtape and Worm-tongue would be proud of the linguistic and mental gymnastics used in the promotion, defense and approval of this law.

With each passing moment, Dependence Day gathers supporters, strength and irrevocable inertia. The newly constitutional Affordable Healthcare law is in force today because we became dependant on our elected representatives to ensure that the intent of the founding fathers was followed and the intent of the electorate was obeyed. These members of Congress further outsourced their responsibilities to nine unelected judges. Tens of thousands of federal and state bureaucrats are enacting, expanding, and enhancing this law through their further interpretation and implementation.

Patrick Henry once said, “The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is a instrument for the people to restrain the government.” As Dependence Day gathers strength, it diminishes our nation’s defining moment to just another day in July. How will you celebrate Dependence Day in 2013?

Let’s see:
I hung up the Gadsen Flag.
Rescued a garter snake stuck on sticky paper. (Interesting that it got stuck on this day)
Redid my budget to fit in the obamatax. It doesn’t fit.
went to Food pantry for the first time. (Gotta stock up any way I can).

Got my Bible.
I’m ready for battle.

OTOneH, I’m totally lost, hopeless, clueless and full of hate.
Don’t mess with me or I’ll chew your head off (without need of those new fangled drugs)

OTOtherH, what’s the point of living?

Out earning my slave wage to give to our federal overlords, of course. No slackers allowed.

To quote my favorite 20th century philosopher (filosofer) Yogi Berra, If the founding fathers were alive today, they would be turning over in their graves”. That said, this is just the latest assault on the Constitution. So to answer your question, “What am I doing on Dependence Day?” I am loading more ammunition. I figure, we all need at least 1000 rounds for EACH of our firearms. And being about 10,000 rounds short, I have lots of work to do.

A good investment of time and money. I suspect there will be another huge wave of this around the end of the year.

Most people are getting ready to be the _S_ that hits the _F_. I’m building a couple of needed things for livestock.

Interestingly, my liberal co-workers were shocked on Thursday that the law was ruled constitutional. They are now worried for the first time how this law will affect their paychecks or if our employer will continue offering health insurance as a benefit. I'm just waiting to start making bricks without straw.

The Dem commies, leftists and LIEberals have no right to celebrate July 4th ‘Independence Day’ that is, since they trash the very founders who constructed the US Constitution—the same document those lefty scummers also pee upon.

Gad. How I hate these endless vanities on FreeRepublic. Like anyone really cares what some faceless Internet philosopher thinks. How absolutely self-indulgent.

Seriously, isn't vanity one of the 7 deadly sins anyway?

You don't like the things the way they are? Vote for change. Get out and get your neighbors to do the same. Grow a pair, stop whining and get it done.

Posting here with your impotent rage accomplishes nothing.

I vowed to never pay any more federal taxes than it takes for me to survive.

I "went Galt" even more so than I have already been doing.

Starve the beast.

I’m working on the 4th. The digs for DoD contracts are so limited that we’re clawing for any tidbits to stay alive. That means working holidays.

I should be home doing the same thing. Instead, I’m 900 miles from home working to keep the family solvent. Over 3 years away from my family now. All a direct consequence of Obama’s election.
