PHOENIX (AP) Several thousand critics of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio gathered outside "Tent City" Saturday night for a rally calling for the closure of the sheriff's complex of canvas jail tents.
Organizers say conditions at "Tent City" complex are inhumane. The sheriff has said he doesn't see any problems with housing inmates in tents and often points out that some members of the U.S. military live in tents.
"We are with you," protesters chanted in both English and Spanish, in hopes that inmates could hear them.
Most protesters held candles and wore yellow T-shirts that read "Standing on the side of love," a slogan of the Unitarian Universalist Association, which was holding its annual convention in Phoenix this weekend.
The rally was the latest effort by the association to promote social justice, association spokesman John Hurley said. The Unitarians organized the rally along with the immigrant rights group Puente Arizona.

I didn’t see a photo at the AP link.
Probably means there were several,
not several thousand.
Hell I’ve been tempted to put up my tent and sleep out in the yard at night myself.
If you can’t stand the heat stay on the straight and narrow...
“Most protesters held candles and wore yellow T-shirts that read “Standing on the side of love,””
Brother-love can justify anything. Read Rand.
There were photos at the site ..very SMALL photos...
BTW my guess is 500 or so
It's currently Saturday afternoon in Phoenix. |
The anti-social criminals at least have tents and food. Just where do these morons want them to be housed...the Waldorf Astoria? Asshats and moonbats all.
Let’s all chip in and get the Sheriff a bigger tent.
You can click on the pic for the larger version..And when you do it makes it obvious that the camera person used some creative method of picture taking to cause blur behind first row of people...or is it just me ;)
A couple of questions.
1. How many were Maricopa County citizens?.
2. How many were Arizona citizens?.
3. How many were citizens?
The citizens of Maricopa County have an easy way to solve this. If they don’t like what the Sherrif is doing they can vote for someone else.
Anyone of those inmates would slit the throat of any one of those Arpaio protesters for ten bucks and not think twice about doing it.
The thing I find interesting is that most state prisons in the US are not air conditioned.
Given the choice between an unairconditioned metal building or cell or a tent...I think I’d opt for the tent.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio is under a new attack from Washington and left-wing billionaire George Soros - furious that Joe has refused to back down in the face of new lawless pro-amnesty actions by the Administration.
Democrat operatives say they are going to “take down” the Sheriff - the most prominent national symbol in the fight against illegal immigration - by using $10 million pledged by Soros to defeat Arpaio in November.
Please help Joe fight back now.

And how many rapes occur at Sheriff Joe’s prison. That’s right, none. But the bed-wetting commie hand-holding panzie protesters are ragging on Arpaio. Yeah, that make sense. Maybe they think he needs to raise the quota of inmate prison rapes.
Bloody stinking commie asswipe liberal worthless gutter bum sacks of turd.
Astro-scum.
All the local news media, used the “expected number” of “several thousand”. They (local msm) couldn’t produce any pics that showed anything near that. All the local tv, print, and radio used the “expected number” figure in their articles the next day. There was a Unitarian Universalist convention in town which “blew up” the “expected turnout”, which I read in a comment on one of the local rags, that it was more like 200 according to police estimates.
Meanwhile, the leftists and Marxist utopians up in Seattle continually erect ‘tent cities’ to house the homeless in suburban areas and around the cities.
The ‘tents’ and living conditions are abysmal. The crime rate soars wherever these tent cities are crammed. And they rotate them through various neighborhoods on a regular basis to skirt the restrictions on this type of a breeding ground for crime and pedophilia.
Did you know that if a sex offender in Seattle declares himself or herself ‘homeless’ that he or she does not have to register themselves as a sex offender? And, regardless of that huge loop hole, many simply use false names. But why shouldn’t they? The background checks are a complete satire of true background checks.
The goal of the leftists in Seattle is to cram poverty into the comfort zone of the middle class. They are usually fairly wealthy themselves, but certainly those who sponsor don’t house the tent cities in their backyards. The synagogue in the suburbs of Bellevue hosted a tent city. They fought tooth and nail and threatened legal action if the municipality didn’t comply. Many of the members of that synagogue are quite wealthy and live on Mercer Island. Of course, tent city is not allowed on Mercer Island. The kicker is that the synagogue used to be a high school (or middle school) and they hosted a town hall to discuss the issue. The town hall was in the huge gymnasium where it was warm and dry and well lighted and where they had real lavatories and water fountains. The tent city that the synagogue hosted was outside under the pine trees where it was muddy and wet and where the ‘tents’ were nothing more than tarps strung together.
But those liberals and socialist Christians that keep shoving the homeless into those muddy pits and into the backyards of hard working, middle-class families go to sleep in their big, expensive houses feeling....ooh, just so gooood about themselves.
