Aloha West Texas Rose!
All's well here but paradise it ain't. We're deep in the local election season and the sign wavers are distracting the views of the beautiful trees in bloom.

Apple is doing fine. And Patch is no longer a stray; she’s now spayed and registered and she recognizes this house as home. We’re down to two kittens, and will be down to just Monkey in a couple of weeks.
Apple has adjusted to having other cats in the house. She and Patch don’t interact much, but Apple does play with the kittens a bit.
Plenty of racing, although none this weekend. I did work NASCAR at Sears Point (oops, Sonoma Raceway) last weekend, and managed to send the only major incident to the turn after me! My magnet is acquiring mysterious and awesome powers... :) Gonna be back at Sears next weekend for an SCCA regional, and I will be doing some actual racing (as opposed to just working a turn) in September!

From Bad Ischl,
Johannes Brahms journeyed to Baden-Baden, where he became a regular at the parties thrown nightly by Johann Strauss the Younger. While Strauss was eight years older than Brahms, he was fit and trim. At age 56, Brahms looked like hell.
His friends were falling by the wayside. Lisl and Heinz von Herzogenberg were young but in bad health. Ted Billroth was in bad health. Clara Schumann, now 70, was in bad health. Hermine Spies, the beautiful contralto, had married a lawyer and promptly died.
In Leipzig, Brahms met Edvard Grieg and Peter Tchaikovsky at a dinner party. Jo and Ed had met before and had a good professional relationship. But Brahms and Tchaikovsky couldnt stand each others music.
Brahms got a chance to record on an Edison wax cylinder, which is preserved today. Brahms piano technique is heavy handed on the bass side, and his high tenor is garbled, but it sounds like a mixture of German and English.
It was at another party that he heard an American woman play ragtime on the banjo, and he book-marked that for future reference. But he was beginning to think that he was too old to take advantage of that new sound. Time was passing him by, and fewer and fewer works came from his pen during those summers. One that is unforgettable is a canon for female quartet based on Schuberts The Organ Grinder from Winter Journey, one of Schuberts very last songs. Its absolutely haunting.
Brahms: Changeless is Loves Sorrow, Op. 113/13
