U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts is joking that he’ll be spending some time in “an impregnable fortress” after casting the decisive vote upholding President Barack Obama’s health care law. Responding to a question about his summer plans, Roberts quipped that he thought his planned trip to Malta to teach a class was a “good idea.” He delivered the joke Friday at a federal court conference at a posh Pennsylvania resort. Roberts declined to answer a question about the landmark opinion issued Thursday. But he says he hopes the court will be remembered for “protecting equal justice under the law.” Roberts was speaking in Farmington, Pa., at a conference hosted by the Judicial Conference of the District of Columbia Circuit.

I think they nominated Roberts because the Senate, bullied by Chuck Schumer, was making idealogy an issue in Judicial confirmations. Schumer was running around yelling "extreme" to any of Bush's nominees, including Janice Roders Brown, Miguel Estrada, and Charles Pickering.
Roberts appeared smooth, not extreme, and his hearings where he did not refer to any notes impressed many people.
He was selected to cancel the "extreme" charge from Schumer.

Yes some don't but the majority of freepers and conservatives get it , well those that believe in real freedom and limited government those that believe that government is the problem not the solution. Fudger!! The only consolidation I get is that his future adopted alien kids will suffer the same fate he put every American in the obamaTAX noose. The hero, a good and decent man and a wise judge, is forced to push an agenda through the courts and make the travesty of judgment believable as his - by any means. All under a threat so immense and unthinkable, that none would guess it.
Having saved mankind certain death and miseries, the hero becomes reviled among his peers and hated by those who once loved him..he lives out his days in silent agony and despair.
Because it is a movie, I knew what that thing was and applauded his sacrifice.

I never thought this POS would be a POS. This is VERY disappointing. He’s not bright either. I really didn’t see this coming.
Equal justice... unless you live in Arizona, that is.
His vote did not make sense on any level. Tax or no tax. How can he be conservative and even think this massive takeover of health care could be good for a free country? How could he vote for it if he did, indeed, consider it a tax? The answer is that he is not a conservative.
What a disappointment he is for the country.
I love Justice Thomas....he can always be counted on to vote the right way. I have the highest respect for him. What was done to him early on was unforgivable. That sad episode gave me a reason to despise Democrats all the more. President Bush #1 certainly made a better Supreme pick with Thomas than his son did with Roberts.
So, how many millions in the Caymans await? Or, is it the get-out-of-jail-free card?

No one else is laughing. Sad that Roberts will likely be classed with Justices like Taney (Dred Scott) and that idiot Blackmun that wrote Roe v. Wade.
I read all the decisions last night. I too kept getting angrier and angrier.
I’m convinced Roberts switched his vote at the last minute.
The “majority” opinion read like a dissent.
The “dissent” read like a majority decision.
If Roberts thinks he as saved the reputation of the court then he is delusional. He proved it’s just another political institution and it’s rulings are simalarily useless.
The presidency is a joke, Congress is out of control and now the SC has been declared moot.
The republic is dead. Bow to your overlords.
Many of whom are utterly immune to facts and logic, when all is said and done, which is why they vote democrat to begin with.
There usually seems to be an increase in reports of family violence around holidays (fist fights, stabbings at the dinner table, etc.). I often wonder if these angry combatants were arguing about politics.
Debating with liberal relatives is usually a waste of time. I've got relatives in my extended family who are rabidly liberal and even pro-abort. Argue with angry liberal relatives and you might be risking life and limb, but you will certainly never convince them that they are wrong.
Roberts the Marxist ended freedom in America. It thinks that is funny too.

Roberts gave a way for the liberals to control every thing we do. Just call any mandate a tax. So he made us all slaves. The liberals didn’t even write it as a tax. Roberts created this. It is an unconstitutional act which this monster did. Not to mention it installed socialism into the U.S. and ended freedom.
I agree it’s a huge battle. I blame Hollywood as much as anybody, and the powers that control the media.
All we can really do is raise our OWN children to be better than that. Get involved in promoting conservative causes. Give our hard earned MONEY to defeat liberals.

Alaskans are pretty libertarian as a group, despite the large amount of government suck up bureaucrats here in Anchorage, and some other environmental nut jobs in places like Juneau. This isn’t a place where Hollywood values go over very well, and that’s one of the reasons I am happy to be raising my kids here.
I’m as pissed off at John Roberts today as anybody. But I’m not willing to repaint his decades long record of conservatism into socialism in order to rant and rave about him. I don’t know what the hell happened to him to have him write that crap opinion, but it is now up to all of us to save our country from the Manchurian candidate that is Obama, and his downright mean wife.
