CURL: Roberts to the rescue for Romney
The Washington Times ^ | 6/28/2012 | Joseph Curl

Posted on 06/28/2012 2:48:31 PM PDT by nerdgirl

Those contemptuous epithets and more were hurled by Republicans and conservatives at Supreme Court Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. moments after he single-handedly saved Obamacare, joining liberals on the bench to break a 4-4 tie.

The Supreme Court has abandoned us,” Texas Gov. Rick Perry declared. “Simply disappointing,” Florida Gov. Rick Scott moaned. “Activist court,” Rep. Michele Bachmann cried.

Even Ari Fleischer, the former spokesman for George W. Bush, who appointed Chief Justice Roberts to the court, joined in. “I miss Justice Harriet Miers,” he whined.

But they all miss the point, and, more, by looking purely at the political, miss the forest for the trees.

“Maybe Justice Roberts is playing chess, and everybody else is playing checkers.”

More like tic-tac-toe. And he just blew a chance to draw the game.

More like Roberts is playing tiddly-winks.

"It’s like claiming Pearl Harbor was a victory because we forced the Japanese to overextend themselves."

It's called losing a battle but winning the war. Don't be so sure about this. I see stealth.

"Actually, what Roberts did was hand obama and the dems a widcat to deal with....the largest tax increase on EVERYONE in history."

Exactly.

Then top it off with the expiration of the "Bush" tax rates.

Something for the cons to really run on.

BRILLIANT

Demonize Roberts?

well why not?

we thought we had a possible 5-4 conservative leaning court if we were lucky

instead we now realize we have a moderate wholly unpredictable out of left field chief justice...which is even worse

damn right I'm pissed

this is the second Bush SCOTUS disappointment

I miss Bill Rehnquist...

it'll take past my lifetime to fix this unless Kennedy and a hard lib or two hard libs pass on

why not be pissed

he drew tax from whole cloth same as the agenda driven libs did

much like Blackmun did in RVW as well..and here we are how many years trying to fix that?

what a damned mess...now Roberts can tinkle Pinots on M street with all the dandies

time won't tell jack about if this is awful...it is..we know it..admit it..if it ain;t awful then you must support national healthcare and I doubt you do

time will only tell if we can overturn a goofy SCOTUS ruling and the biggest legislative measure since the New Deal that was ramrodded down our throats against the wishes of a profound majority and with zero bipartisan support and none of the required congressional hearings and readings they give even for just bridges to nowhere much less something of this magnitude

this is a very big deal hon...it's hugh...and then some...very series

The problem is this. Roberts not only broke and voted with the libs, but most importantly to me (an attorney) used bad reasoning in doing so.

If this was a tax and decided on those grounds, the case shouldn't have been decided and punted back until it was in effect. Also, not only were things redefined, it opens up a whole new can of worms as bad as the commerce clause.

What was proven to me know is that I count on Roberts as much as Kennedy. Maybe less, because Kennedy is more libertarian at times. If we gain one, is Roe V Wade/Doe v Bolton now gone?

When the long string of polls come out next week showing Obama opening up a nice lead over Romney, then it should become crystal clear to all just how ridiculous these types of articles really are.

we just have to deal with it don’t we?

i mean good lord

what do you want?

forgive Roberts cause he’s cute in a Phil Collins sort of way?

or just be nice for the hell of it?

In voting to uphold Mr. Obama’s disastrous health-care overhaul, the chief justice took away the president’s main line of attack that surely would have been deployed had the court voted 5-4, along party lines.

So what? ObamaCare was and is very unpopular. Let him complain all day long.

I don't care what Robert's did for Romney. What he did was Unconstitutional. And every day for the rest of my life when I hear this puke’s name, I will associate him with Obama and want to throw up. Hopefully he will have some reason to quit and Romney can replace his sorry keister.

Take our government-controlled news media out of the equation and I’d agree with you. They are responsible for all of this destruction. The Republicans need an all-out assault on the ObamaMedia and stop playing nice.

Just as appalling and unconstitutional, Roberts re-wrote legislation - an act that he does NOT have Constitutional authority.

Boy someone in DV in the GOP must be calling all favors from Conservative media in for Damage Control. Spin, Spin, Spin. The collective organization of Conservative venue apologist in the media for Roberts sounds like the organizing of just one mans doing.

Of course he ignored the law. He declared it a tax yet a tax law cannot be heard by ANY court unless the tax has been levied and someone has paid it.

"Time will tell us if what he's done here is awful or not."

He is demonic, we know that now.

What he is done is far worse than awful. We know that now.

What he did was an act of judicial legislation. We know that now.

He has violated his sacred oath. We know that now.
