Conservatives turn on Roberts
Salon ^ | 6-28-12 | Alex Seitz-Wald

Posted on 06/28/2012 10:24:08 AM PDT by Mozilla

Conservative Chief John Roberts single-handedly saved Obamacare today, siding with the liberal bloc of the Supreme Court to uphold the law, even though more moderate Justice Anthony Kennedy led the dissent.

The steps of the Supreme Court this morning were packed with conservatives deeply disappointed by the ruling and hurt by the apparent betrayal of one of their own. ”I think a lot of Chief Justice Roberts. I think his whole history of jurisprudence is deserving of respect from this country — up to, and not necessarily including, this opinion today,” Rep. Steve King, a Republican from Iowa, told Salon. “If I issued an opinion, I think Chief Justice Roberts would want to read my full opinion before he criticized me, and I want to read his opinion, but really, I have a sick feeling in my stomach about what happened here today.”

--snip--

Rep. Louie Gohmert, a Tea Party Republican from Texas, told Salon of Roberts, “I’m sorry he’s become so cynical.” ”He expects the president of the United States to lie to him, and to lie to America when [Obama] said — and he had it said on his behalf repeatedly — this was not a tax. For Justice Roberts to say, of course it’s a tax, he makes very clearly that he believes the president is a liar and it’s a sad day for America,” Gohmert explained.

--snip--

“It’s a terrible day for the American people,” said Rep. Michele Bachmann, the Minnesota Republican who ran for president. “This was an activist court that rewrote the law to make it even more ineffectual, and even more expensive. So this is a sad day.”

“Chief Justice Roberts was the worst part of the Bush legacy,” Ben Shaprio, a conservative columnist and editor at Breitbart.com, said on Twitter.

First you had better get Romney to drop his crap about it being “ - - - simply unacceptable - - - “ that 20 million Americans still aren’t covered by Health Insurance.

If Romney won’t dump his loyalty to the idea of an Insurance Safety net, then it is time to DUMP Romney with an ABSTAIN vote on the first ballot in Tampa.

BTW, Romney”care” safety net can easily be expanded into Obama”care” safety net without SOCTUS even lifting a finger.

Roberts may have thought U. S. Citizens would read his words and the language related to voting practices. If so, I think he may be even less aware than I had thought before. Almost nobody will read his decision.

He may have thought the natural reaction would be to vote people out who back this monstrosity, but that is so iffy. People have a nasty habit of voting back into office their current political representatives.

The president doesn’t hold true to this model.

This may result in Obama losing by the widest margin in U. S. History. If so, I do not think Roberts did the right thing.

John Roberts AGREES with Elena Kagan on this!!!!

Maybe that's why Roberts, said Kagan didn't have to recuse herself, even though she had worked on ObamaCare as Solicitor General.

"As solicitor general of the United States, Justice Elena Kagan served as the head of an office responsible for formulating the Obama administration’s legal defense of its domestic agenda priority — Obamacare."

Roberts is a saint who sacrificed his reputation among conservatives (hopefully only temporarily) in order to save this country. This was only a battle in a long war and conservatives will win the war in November. Read what I said again in post #33.

With his vote Roberts:

1. Got to write the opinion instead of risking that the libs write the opinion should Kennedy have voted for it.
2. Took away a liberal issue that would have helped them in November.
3. Guaranteed a huge GOP turn out in November that will sweep not only Romney into office but bring strong GOP majorities to the Senate and House.

Roberts owned Kennedy as well as the libs on the court. Brilliant strategy!

“John Roberts is a traitor and a Benedict Arnold.”

I think it is time for us to remember that G W Bush gave us this pseudo-conservative, and G W Bush failures as President gave us Obama. Thank you, Mr G W Bush. Too bad you were not a conservative.

“Roberts turned on us first.

FUGWB
FUJR
FUBO

3 peas in the same pod”

After all of this, we’re still fooling ourselves thinking that Mitt Romney isn’t going to be just like these 3!

Roberts sanctioned in the law FRAUD. Fraud is now a constitutional right. We were told we would be forced to purchace private insurance. But Roberts defined the purchace of a commodity as a tax and therefore the Congress has unfettered ability to tax under defrauding the public.

Euphemisms, misdirection, lies, and fraud are the tools of the left. NEVER, EVER,EVER BELIEVE DEMOCRATS OR THE SUPREMES. And be very skeptical of Republicans.

Well, look, blaming him when he could have gotten us out of them mess on his own, isn’t irrational. It’s realistic. And placing him in the same bag with Ginsberg, Kagan, and others is in and of itself a complete destruction of the perception he is a reasoned man. We now know, that isn’t always true.

“I have more respect for Benedict Arnold than Roberts.”

At least Arnold was aiming at a payday. Roberts gets none but shame.

On come one, why is everyone so quick to bring this up? Threats?

Our founding fathers had more than threats to deal with and they took on the largest superpower up to that time.

Some like yourself just don’t get it. Hopefully it will sink in some day soon and you will see just how wise Chief Justice’s decision was.

I think it is time for us to remember that G W Bush gave us this pseudo-conservative, and G W Bush failures as President gave us Obama.

Let's be fair here.. Roberts, who had clerked for Rehnquist, had a solid conservative background at the time of nomination. Do we not remember the grilling he got from dems during the confirmation process? Up until this week, he'd kept with his conservative underpinnings. It's a stretch to lay it on Bush that Roberts failed today.

You should rephrase it as follows: Hopefully it will sink in some day soon and you will see just how wise Chief Justice’sElena Kagan's decision was.

Robert’s vote will be a huge plus in November elections. Now, we all small government types are more energized to vote. It is not his job to decide if a law is good or bad. That is upto voters-—>congress-—>president.

I agree with that. As far as being energized to vote, I am afraid that FReepers will be bystanders. 1/2 of the people here are still debating if the previous Obama opponent or current Obama oponent is worth supporting ...

Let's fast forward to 2016: Obama is ending 2nd term. He appointed 3 more justices, replacing 2 frail liberals and Scalia. Obama appointees now have a 5:4 majority. Obamacare is now fully implemented. The US unemployment is higher than French unemployment, officially in teens now (reaching 13%).

As Obama leaves office, he leaves another legacy behind. Webster dictionary added 2 entries to the dictionary: Obamacare and triple-dip (recession).

The talk on FR in 2016 will be: "If we only nominated real conservative in 2008 (Romney rather than McCain) and in 2012 (Gingrich rather than Romney), none of this would have happened."

“This was only a battle in a long war and conservatives will win the war in November.”

Electoral victories last at the very longest two years, less if you have a Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords. SCOTUS decisions last so long as the holy of holies that is precedent lives in the hearts of justices. If Roberts intentionally spit on the Constitution to give Republicans a winning issue for November, then he is evil.

Because there is no possible way maybe overturning Obamacare is a better deal than preventing the feds from ordering us to do whatever the hell they want so long as the call the penalty for not doing so a tax.
