Conservative Chief John Roberts single-handedly saved Obamacare today, siding with the liberal bloc of the Supreme Court to uphold the law, even though more moderate Justice Anthony Kennedy led the dissent.
The steps of the Supreme Court this morning were packed with conservatives deeply disappointed by the ruling and hurt by the apparent betrayal of one of their own. I think a lot of Chief Justice Roberts. I think his whole history of jurisprudence is deserving of respect from this country up to, and not necessarily including, this opinion today, Rep. Steve King, a Republican from Iowa, told Salon. If I issued an opinion, I think Chief Justice Roberts would want to read my full opinion before he criticized me, and I want to read his opinion, but really, I have a sick feeling in my stomach about what happened here today.

Rep. Louie Gohmert, a Tea Party Republican from Texas, told Salon of Roberts, Im sorry hes become so cynical. He expects the president of the United States to lie to him, and to lie to America when [Obama] said and he had it said on his behalf repeatedly this was not a tax. For Justice Roberts to say, of course its a tax, he makes very clearly that he believes the president is a liar and its a sad day for America, Gohmert explained.
--snip--
Its a terrible day for the American people, said Rep. Michele Bachmann, the Minnesota Republican who ran for president. This was an activist court that rewrote the law to make it even more ineffectual, and even more expensive. So this is a sad day.
Chief Justice Roberts was the worst part of the Bush legacy, Ben Shaprio, a conservative columnist and editor at Breitbart.com, said on Twitter.

If it had been overturned would Obama then have a rallying point for his re-election? Well that issue has now been taken away from him. The Dems & their MSM whores were prepared to wage a holy war on the SC and every breathing Republican if this would have been struck down by a “conservative” SC.
Now, Republicans, conservatives are aflame as we should be. Even 68% of the Yahoo home page Libs think it was the wrong decision.
Will this ultimately change the turnout against Obama in November? Will this ultimately lead to a Romney presidency, a Republican Senate & House?
Did Roberts just fall on the sword?
Just some thoughts I am having.
God is wise, and maybe enough prayer has gone to Him that He is willing to open one more door to an America mired in lassitude to get itself free again.
Roberts' opinion is based on a lie. He has sold out, for whatever reason. Calling a financial penalty a tax does not make it one.
“Another point of comparison between Reagan and a Bush, BTW.”
So Kennedy comes out on top of Roberts, and Reagan’s Scalia stands on the right side of the decision with Bush’s Alito. But let’s not forget how underwhelming has Kennedy been in general. Then there’s Sandra Day O’Connor, a real bust. I used to love Bork but have increasingly come to believe he wouldn’t have been all we’ve projected onto him.
At best its a push. We Republicans really must find out how the Dems manage.
“Yes, I think he’s that smart”
That’s not smart; that’s evil.
If the Supremes had ruled against Obama, he'd be able to gloss over his disastrous economic policies and run against the 'out of touch' court. As is stands now, he has to defend the largest tax increase in American history, and what the results of that will be for business in this country.
This is a clear cut election issue, and if we spend our time bitching and moaning about the Supremes, and arguing with each other about the ruling, we'll waste valuable time which could otherwise be used to defeat Obama soundly, AND replace members of Congress who voted for Obamacare with people who will commit to REPEAL Obamacare, in its entirety, and de-fund all the bureaucracies that have grown up around Obamacare. AND these new members must commit NOT to replace Obamacare with their own version of government run health care.
Nonsensical to point out there are 9 judges on the supreme court?
Including 5 judges who sold out America.

I have more respect for Benedict Arnold than Roberts.
I expected better of him but put them all in the same category. They sold us out.
Roberts turned on us first.

However, let us also not forget that when demands came up for Kagan to recuse herself that ROBERTS, THE FREEDOM ROBBER, came to her rescue and said she didn't have to recuse herself from the case. Makes you wonder if Roberts needed her vote to push this decision through and so he looked the other way. After all, Kagan and Roberts both ended up voting on the same side of this case.
This decision is tyrannical at best. Roberts has just said that there are no limits on federal power, and that the individual mandate--which is clearly a penalty and not a tax--is a tax. Roberts also said that the government could tax things which don't even relate to federal enumerated powers. The Congress no longer needs the Commerce Clause but can now "regulate" (and in this case that means penalize) activity over which it has no authority to directly regulate. Roberts argued this is allowed under the Taxation clause in Art I Sec 8. Congress and the President can penalize any behavior and have the Court construe it as a tax.
Incidentally, Roberts also cited the Wickard v. Filburn (1942), one of the most vile of all SCOTUS decisions in history to support his argument of governmental expansion to justify Obamacare's power grab. He writes: First, Congress has the power to regulate economic activities that substan tially affect interstate commerce. Gonzales v. Raich, 545 U. S. 1, 17 (2005). This capacious power extends even to local activities that, viewed in the aggregate, have a substantial impact on interstate commerce. See ibid. See also Wickard, 317 U. S., at 125 ([E]ven if appellees activity be local and though it may not be regarded as commerce, it may still, whatever its nature, be reached by Congress if it exerts a substantial economic effect on interstate commerce. (emphasis added)); Jones & Laugh- lin Steel Corp., 301 U. S., at 37.
Wow. What a fascist. Roberts had the chance to overturn one of the worst decisions in SCOTUS History, and instead he used the opportunity to ROB Americans of their freedom. Roberts the Freedom Robber managed to reaffirm the overreach of the Commerce Clause, while at the same time expanding the power of the taxation clause, all while claiming not to make a ruling based on the Commerce Clause. Yeah, he's smart, but apparently he's not on the good side.
Well maybe not yet.
I do fear for the future of this country. Sadly I do believe we are simply too divided for this Union to say together permanently. This WILL be seen as the Dred v. Sanford of our time. You are living in History people.
Fred is also supporting the elimination of the Electoral College now as well.
Roberts opinion is disappointing, but I do think he believes what he’s written.
Roberts did not cause this problem. We caused this problem by voting for liberals. Had conservatives refused to vote for McCain in 2008, the GOP would not have dared to nominate another liberal like Romney for president.
I made the mistake of voting for McCain in 2008. I will never again vote for a liberal. It sends the wrong message.
Did I say I like what Roberts did? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
What I AM SAYING is that regardless of constitutionality of Obamacare mandates, we better get our lazy asses to the polls in November to vote against Obama and liberal democrats in congress. Roberts joining the other 4 would have made it easier. Now we will do it the hard way by turning out to vote.
Even the Massachusetts Moderate said today he will nullify Obamacare on his 1st day in office with an EO. Well..it won’t take long, will it, to see if he spoke the truth or a lie. I am willing to concede him 5 days to do what he said today.
“If it had been overturned would Obama then have a rallying point for his re-election?”
Yes, among a minority of the electorate.
“Well that issue has now been taken away from him”
Whoopdeedoo.
John Roberts is a traitor and a Benedict Arnold.
Or was his family, children threatened? That sort of thing is certainly not beyond those on the left.
True, New Sodom(america) is follwing the “model”...
America may have now the givernment they(we) deserve..
The republicans fully allowed the democrats to own the colleges and high schools for at least forty years maybe 50 or 60..
What could go wrong?.. OH! and voter fraud has been sniffed at by them..
All those strong “conservatives” allowed their children to be brain washed..
They were too busy being “right” and underestimated the treasonous SOB’s to undermine Americas identity..
