As a guy who's been unemployed for a few months, I've made a habit of looking for silver linings in the darkness. Folks, there is some good news to this monstrosity: now Romney's path to the White House is pretty much assured.
Up until today, Obama had one issue that was haunting him: the economy. He could blame the GOP for not doing being "bipartisan"...a charge that has always made me nauseous. But as of today, Obama's got to defend a policy that the majority of American people don't like. And he can't blame the Republicans for this - they didn't vote for it.
Guess what? Obama just raised taxes on the middle class. How did that work out for George H. Bush? The Democrats, as we all know, are not the party of the middle class. The debt now exceeds the GDP. The higher it goes, the greater pressures there will be to raise taxes on the middle class.
Romney can point out that with another four years of Obama, more taxes will be coming. Does anyone doubt that this administration will raise taxes on energy through cap and trade? And given this man's fondness for issuing executive orders, why let a little bump in the road like Congress get in the way of what he wants?
Now, like many of you, Mitt Romney was not my first choice. I hated Romneycare. On the other hand, there is a difference between what a state can do, and what the federal government can do - it's clearly explained in the Constitution. And I do think Romney has been clear on this point: that the current FCA is an overreach of federal power. Romney has vowed to repeal this - and I think with a Senate majority, he can do so, just like the Democrats did when they forced this on the American people.
Well, no, that would be a mandate. What the Supreme Court said he can do is get Congress to level a tax on all non-electric cars and a tax rebate on the Volt. You still can choose to buy whatever car you want, it will just cost you an extra arm and a leg to buy a non-Volt.
Supreme Court doctrine as of today.
I am not sure I agree completely with your conclusion. The conservative side is still populated with a great number who believe passionately that it is better to loose everything than to compromise on anything. We are so busy fighting with our neighbors in the backyard that we often allow our opponents to waltz unopposed through the front door. The Supreme Court just reminded us that elections have consequences and we cant depend on them to rescue us from bad choices. In November we voters will have a choice between two men, Oboma or Romney. Regardless of what we do with our vote, we will be choosing one or the other.
Romney doesn’t have the illegal vote.
If wishes were horses then beggars would ride. This is the real world.
After today, there won’t be enough illegals to cover for Obama.
Unfortunately, the majority of voting America doesn’t like or follow politics and can be swayed by a few “feel good” phrases (i.e “yes we can”). The Republican party is trying to throw the election like they did last time with another rhino. Part of me wonders if Obama will barely win in this election that will have the lowest turnout in history.
“Possibly 4 court appointments under the next President.”
And you truly believe that that means 4 conservative justices?? PLEASE! Just LOOK at the history. Specifically Romney’s! They could easily make john roberts look like a right wing radical!
I agree, this ruling will help reelect “The Divine One.” Romney is simply too weak a candidate.
I sure hope I'm wrong on this. But for Romney to score big on this issue, he has to be both very clever and very tenacious. I don't think Romney can pull that off.
The Silver Lining: Mitt Romney just won the election.
Not really.
George Romney, Mitts father, was a Mexican citizen. When did he become a U.S. Citizen before, after, or never at all?
We need to see his legal papers.
Yeah right, and SCOTUS will never uphold Obamacare, right?
Sure that can work in long form thought, but in a sound byte election that will be hard to pull off. Though I will say Romney has amazing talent to spin on his feet. If anyone can pull it off it is him, compared to McCain, Dole or either Bush.
Obama or Romney, a certain destruction, or a maybe destruction? Your choice citizen, vote wisely.
Romney: Well...yeah... However, as a purported constitutional lawyer, it'd be reasonable to expect you would also understand that each sovereign state in the 50 -- and by the way, not 57 -- United States has its own specific goals, objectives and needs. The health care program that my administration set... warts and all.. was what we believed to be the overall the right course of action, specifically for Massachussetts. That said... what may work for one state should never be construed as the model for all 50. That is where I draw the line. Your disastrous, 2,700-page monstrosity, with all its complexities and taxes, must and will, if the American people elect me to replace you, be repealed and replaced with a far more patient-centered, far less intrusive, and far less expensive program.
THAT should be Romney's response. Whether it will or not remains to be seen.
Every lie about 0bamacare needs to be made into ads for Romney. The tax increases (don’t forget the Bush tax cuts expire Dec. 31, 2012 — that in itself is the largest tax increase in history) and now loads of additional taxes for 0bamacare. Don’t let the lies continue. Stop the lies November 6th.
“Anyone who supports a 3rd Party on the Right, now, is an IDIOT! “
I agree. Romney wasn’t my first choice. Or second. Or third. BUT he’s NOT Obama! ASnd he at least CLAIMED this morning he’d work to nuke and replace ObamaCare.
Now, if it were Newt in that debate, he'd have Obama running from the stage crying like a little girl. Oh, what might have been...
By the way, did you notice that I had Obama say “Well George” instead of “Well Mitt”? No offense to the Bushies out there, but I sometimes get my RINO’s mixed up.
“This is the real world.”
I’m still NOT going to vote for Romney.
I’m tired of you Mormon converts on FR supporting Romney.
Yes, I know, you are not Mormon. But you sure act like you are!
“Romney will do what is best for Romney, and that means that Romney will, largely, support the Conservative agenda.”
You are right that Romney will do what is best for Romney, but wrong that he will go towards the right to do so. IF he is elected POTUS, he will try to get ALL groups (to include the left) behind him. We real conservatives are a minority....we will go under the bus. Look how he governed in Mass.
