In Arizona v. United States, the Supreme Court unanimously agreed that the federal government has no basis to nullify the "show me your papers" provision of Arizona's immigration law. Conservatives Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas, moderate Anthony Kennedy, liberals Stephen Breyer and Ruth Bader Ginsburg -- even Obama appointee Sonia Sotomayor -- all shot down the administration's effort to stop that part of the law. (Obama appointee Elena Kagan stayed out of it because she had taken part in the action as a member of the administration.)
Yet even with that unanimity -- a position supported, if the polls are correct, by a solid majority of the public and an overwhelming majority of Republicans -- GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney would not specifically say he agreed with the court's view on "show me your papers."

Romney's words again suggested he agrees with the court's opinion on "show me your papers." But again, he offered nothing to make clear his position on the central issue of the Arizona immigration fight.
Perhaps Romney was just exercising his legendary caution. But if Scalia and Sotomayor can agree on something, what would be the risk in Romney agreeing with it, too?
Though it touched on many questions, the political fight over the Arizona immigration law focused on a very specific issue: Should police who have stopped a person for some legitimate reason then check that person's status if they have reason to believe he or she might be in the country illegally? On Monday, Mitt Romney had the perfect opportunity to align himself with the conservative -- and popular -- side of the question, and declined to take it.

Now, there are people in the Republican establishment that will tell you, "Yeah, it's exactly what we're supposed to do." Then we become no different than the left, pandering to this coalition with this message, that coalition with another message, a coalition over there with that interest group, what have you. You and I have always believed that standing for the rule of law... what bothers me is the assumption or the presumption that every Hispanic in this country, every Latino is for breaking the law. I just don't believe it. I just don't believe that's the case.
Romney may be playing this right. Why interfere when the opposition party is doing a good job of destroying themselves.

Regardless of what he said, the CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, etc. network news Pimps and Prostitutes would spin it against him and for the Food Stamp President. Watched them as they were stumped because he pulled a Food Stamp President on them and gave one of those filibuster say-nothing responses.
But let's get back today's narrative: Immigration.
The idea here is to pressure Romney into taking a position on immigration that both the media and the White House can then use to beat him senseless with. And it doesn’t matter what Romney's ultimate position will be. The media will still lie and twist and beat him senseless with it.
We know this because the media is already shamelessly lying about Romney's time at Bain Capital.
Why in the world should Romney play by the media's rules and therefore on Obama's turf when it comes to any policy, but most especially immigration -- something the media will most certainly turn into racial dynamite? Why should Romney stupidly turn the focus on himself when the way to win this election is to make it a referendum on Obama by keeping the focus on him?
It's impossible to lose by standing firmly and loudly with 70% of the American people. Romney's weak ass statement on this decision, is as weak as his statements on every other issue of national importance in the last few weeks.
He's never stood firmly for anything in his entire adult life.
Romney is simply weak. He's got a noodle for a spine, and a weather vane in place of firm convictions and principles. He's an empty suit who is going to pander to the left, and break your ever lovin' heart.

This election is about electoral votes and swing states.Obama desperately wants to win swing states Colorado and Nevada which have growing hispanic populations in trying to capture electoral votes.That is why he is trying to box Romney into a corner with hispanics by that executive order granting partial amnesty and this latest court fight over the Az immigration law.He is trying to take up the slack from the white working class he will be losing this time around with the hispanic vote Romney wants this to be about Obama and he does not want to be baited into “war against hispanics” storyline that the Dems want to sell. So I would guess handlers are telling him politically to keep his message muted and vague on the issue until the media tires of the issue and he can get back on message about Obama and the economy.
Oh please. Enough with the, 'he's not letting the MSM bait him into a trap' bs. If Romney had a spine, or something resembling guts and real convictions, he'd be out there blasting Obama for every over-reach and misstep.
What's he doing instead? Making weaseling milquetoast statements that have to be interpreted through a Federation universal translator, then run past a battery of Ivy League linguists to sort out his intent.
In an election where his record nearly mirrors that of his opponent's, he needs to be drawing the clearest differentiation he can manage, but he's not. As usual, Mr. Weather Vane is looking to see which way the wind is blowing, and even then, he's getting it wrong.
Fully 70% of the American people want illegal immigration stopped, and the law breakers sent home to their own countries. You cannot lose by strongly voicing support for upholding the rule of law and American sovereignty on this issue. Apparently, the master strategist, Romney, is too afraid of offending anyone but conservatives, to come right out and say what Americans are dying to hear from a leader.
Spare me the apologies for the quisling liberal.
Why would Romney not just say, “I stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the duely elected govenors of the states and the citizens of the states. I stand with their state sovereignty and their citizens.” “And if duely elected as President I will faithfully execute the laws of the United States. Since the Arizona law was the mirror image of the federal laws those laws will be enforced.” It is a gift.

Today’s Supreme Court ruling on the Arizona immigration law gave the corrupt media yet another opportunity to try and trick Mitt Romney into playing by their rules. And as we all know, there’s absolutely no difference between Obama’s rules and the media’s rules.
Ever since Obama violated his oath of office and chose to no longer enforce our immigration laws regarding certain Mexican illegals, the media has eagerly locked arms with the President to help him spring this cynical and obvious political trap. For ten days now, we’ve been fed a steady stream of All Things Hispanic — a narrative that has nothing to do with immigration and everything to do with identity politics.
If the media truly gave a hi-ho-hearty damn about the plight of Mexicans, it would give Fast and Furious the attention it deserves — an administration scandal that resulted in the deaths of hundreds of innocent Mexican citizens. But like the phony War on Women and George Zimmerman and same-sex marriage — piece by piece, the media is aiding and abetting Team Obama in securing its base.

Even some conservatives I respect are thinking it might be time for Romney to “release specifics” on the issue. After the SCOTUS decision was announced, Romney did release a statement but wisely, in my opinion, used the spotlight to take a few more whacks at Obama’s four years of inaction on the issue.
Personally, I’m impressed by Romney’s nerve on this. The media is crafty at labeling their traps escape hatches (just do this and we’ll stop) and more often than not, Republicans fall for it.
Not Romney.
He’s keeping his powder dry, playing a winning game of chicken, keeping the focus on Obama, and staying on message.
Eventually, Romney will of course release policy specifics. But this should be a strategically timed move and an offensive one, not a reactionary one.
Stop worrying about that the media thinks. Think about what the media will do. Romney had a choice today between ten days of pain by getting specific or an afternoon of pain for not.
Like I said before: chess not checkers.

Chief Justice Roberts will turn out to be another RINO appointee and yet another check in the negative column for another weak president, GW Bush.
Romney is weak and a coward. The fact conservatives can’t take advantage of a pure socialist president proves the movement is dead. We give them the House and Senate over and over and they tell us to pound sand.
Screw the left, they’ll committ suicide as you proclaim. It’s time to SWEEP the commie loving Marxist RINO’s from the GOP or just stay home.
Personally (and 9/11 proves this) I believe the people are too stupid to do anything to stop this. Nothing we do from 1994 to 2000, 2004, 2010 mean NOTHING when you let the “leaders” be left wing leaning nuts like Boehner, McConnell, Bushes, et al.
It’s going to take the complete collapse of our economy to change this country. And even then I’m skeptical. When GM is government owned and given to the UAW and even WalMart grows the economy more of China than ours the I’m afraid there is no Atlas to shrug.
John Galt is dead. My suggestion? Go apply for other peoples money and lie on the applications. If they deny you, sue the hell out of them.
