A new fire is burning at the western edge of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a few outlying communities have been evacuated and more are on voluntary-evacuation status. The wind is light and to the northeast. The fire is being called the Waldo Canyon fire since it's in or near Waldo Canyon; it is also being called the Pyramid fire. The fire started around noon today and is currently at 100-150 acres, with no containment. Temperatures here are in the high 90s with light winds and humidity in the single digits. The conditions are extremely bad with no relief in sight.
I am a crocheter. Sigh, not enough time or yarn or patterns or ideas in the world.
Waldo Canyon is just west of Gardens of the Gods in Colorado Springs. My wife and I have hiked Waldo Canyon ... moderate hike with great views of Colorado Springs. We live on the western slope of the Colorado Rocky mountains now and fire hazard alerts are at their highest level ... the whole area is a tinderbox.
I hear that one. My day job keeps interfering with my quilting. Good thing God is the Author of our creativity. I look forward to spending a lot of time in eternity happily buried in fabric.
Absolutely.
One can NEVER have too much fabric!!!
;)
Praying for all of you...
Praying hard that the fire will still away from both of you. God Bless
Prayers for your father in law that he will be safe.
Oh that isn’t good.
Prayers for your cousin that the home will be saved.
I’m a Colorado resident also, on the SE plains. We’re seeing triple digit temps and haven’t had any rain in weeks, humidity is very low. Even the desert plants are wilted and drying.
I’m concerned for grass fires. I have family who’s property was endangered by the Ft. Collins fire. They were able to get some of it out.
The reason Fire departments and equipment was developed was to protect human life against nature’s fury. It doesn’t help matters when forests can’t be harvested.
I agree with the severe penalties for arsonists.
Salve
Are you well friend and your family and others around?
I am praying for you all that no pain should come to you and all.
Merci.
If her longarm is anything but an Innova, I’d say let it burn and use the insurance to buy an Innova! LOL!!!! Got a roomful of fabric and machines myself and would hate to have to start over. sigh.....
Thanks
I have already told my son that when I retire, I don’t even want a car, just to have him take me to Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, Joanns, periodically. I just need a place big enough for my recliner, bed, and craft room, and garden to putter around in.
He refuses. He makes a good point, I can just order my yarn online. And really, it is better that way, I get the colors I want, and how much I want.
Whew, High Park latest update: 81,190 acres! So hard, and no relief in sight!
Quilting and crochet aside, here is the updated link for news: http://www.gazette.com/articles/blaze-140753-fire-side.html
Manitou is being evac’d, calm winds but the morning winds will make it complicated I imagine.
IIRC one of al Qaeda’s ideas was to set forest fires. Wouldn’t surprise me if they were involved in some of the fires.
I’m in Eastern Colorado Springs right now. Pikes Peak is obscured by smoke. This is terrible.
