Metro-Kiwanis Park hosted a variety of faith-based citizens Thursday night for the Stand Up for Religious Freedom rally.
The outdoor event held at the gazebo to the right of the play area began packing in the people around 6:15 p.m., toting lawn chairs and signs in support of the movement.
Several local churches have openly opposed the Department of Health and Human Services mandate stating that all insurance must cover birth control and abortion-causing drugs and chose to attend the rally as one unifying body.
Sheila Bedford, rally committee member, said the rally was not just about getting together in support of the movement, but also to educate people on their rights set forth in the Constitution.
What we hope to accomplish, more than anything, is to increase awareness in education, that we cannot take our liberties for granted, Bedford said. This is a national movement to get people aware and kind of out of our level of complacency.

Sounds like surrender. No thanks.
Not interested in dancing to their tune. The fact of the matter is that the attack is against not only churches and church institutions, it is a direct assault on individuals.
How in the world is non-compliane and refusal to do what they want surrender to the government? That’s like saying refusal to give up your guns is anti-second amendment. .
The HSS mandate makes it impossible for me to purchase a product which I wish to purchase.
Keeping a firearm “illegally” is not the same as being coerced to make a choice between prudent decisions for my financial welfare and the violating my belief.
The insurance well has been poisoned.
Refusing to be coerced is not surrender. And co-op self insurance is a way to avoid government mandates.
I am honestly looking for a plan.
This spells out our options pretty explicitly: WOULD YOU GO TO JAIL WITH YOUR BISHOP? (link)
My answer is: yes, I would. I will not cooperate with damnable mandates from this dictatorial government.
Since we are talking right of free exercise we engage in civil disobedience and refuse to offee insurance that includes morally abhorrent coverages.
Nope, first we engage in something like Christian Healthcare Ministries a healthcare co-op and ensure rules abide by our beliefs. Make the govt sue us to take it before the courts and claim religious rights
Link to chm is below if I did this correctly on my blackberry
http://tinyurl.com/catholic-orgs-file-lawsuits It's the largest legal challenge to the U.S. government in American history.
It appears you missed that. But I don't blame you: the media blkacked it out (Link)
That's why Free Republic is so important.
And BTW, YES on civil disobedience: if our absolutely unprecedented barrage of lawsuits fails, the next step for us is prison.
Link does not work. I would be interested if there is something there that no one else has figured out.
Hi Mrs D
Try www.chministries.org. And see if that works. If not just google christian health ministries and see what u get.
What you are talking about is what the churches have done about their group plan prior to any aggrieved party actually being forced to participate
What I’m speaking of is individuals with their indiv plans suing as injured parties after the implementation of forced buying. The co-ops could also sue if denied the opportunity to organize as they see fit.
This is different in nature than what is already taking place, imho.
All faiths need to join together against this attack.
