Darrell Issa: Contempt vote coming on Fast and Furious
Politico ^ | 19 June 2012 | JOHN BRESNAHAN and JAKE SHERMAN

Posted on 06/19/2012 5:17:25 PM PDT by Erik Latranyi

House Republicans are charging head first into their most direct conflict with President Barack Obama’s administration over the extent of executive branch power, as they prepare to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress on Wednesday.

Holder and Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) failed to reach an agreement on what documents the administration would fork over to help Republicans investigate the Fast and Furious program, a joint Justice Department-Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives operation that put guns into the hands of Mexican cartels.

The two sides remained at loggerheads Tuesday evening, after a 20-minute huddle in Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s third-floor Capitol suite. Holder later called Issa’s position “political gamesmanship” and not a true attempt to resolve the dispute.

After the session, Issa, the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said no deal was in hand and Wednesday’s vote would move forward, barring a last-minute reversal.

The contempt fight with Holder and the White House is a big moment for House Republicans. With stubbornly high unemployment, a president with weak approval ratings, a redistricting process that has shored up Republican seats from coast to coast and a worse-than-expected economic recovery, GOP officials think they’re poised to keep the House in their control, and many believe they have a shot at taking the Senate and White House.

See that? That's wiggle room.

From the last sentence, the only reason the pubbies press on is because Hussein is weak.

Unfortunately, there is much truth to it.

How about if they hold The White Hut, in Contempt of Congress, for selective enforcement of Laws, and for circumventing Congress with Executive Orders, and Regulatory Body Law-Making, without Congressional oversight?

House Republicans are charging head first into their most direct conflict with President Barack Obama’s administration...

What kind of a rag would print such a ridiculous and disingenuous statement as this?

Ah, the good old days when the news was actually the news and to the point to boot.

These a$$hats don't even deserve the title of reporter!

I thought they were going to hold the racist ba$tard in contempt THIS MORNING! Typical RINO Repubs . . . one more day.

This White House is in so deep that they can not and will not release the documents. After all, who's going to make them? Issa? He's been kissing this Holder's butt for over a year now. Incredible!

Over the years I’ve liked Issa. When it came to this private meeting, I honestly thought the fix was in.

I’m so glad to hear he stuck to his guns.

We’ll see. I’m hopeful.

I think so too, and Hillary! Why else drag it out forever. I sure hope they don’t give up. And since there are supposedly 31 house dems supporting the contempt vote, I figure they must know there is something pretty awful in those documents.

I was just reading this news from another source and then onto the comment section. Not one single pro-Holder comment to be found.

Seems obundler finally found a way to become that great unifier with everyone in agreement that Holder belongs in jail wearing an orange jumpsuit.

Hopeful? If contempt charges are brought, so what? Holder’s actions regarding Marc Rich, the black panthers and many other issues hardly describe him as someone who gives a damn about the rule of law. That is why he was in clintons administration and now obamas. He is a go to guy. These people love the role as underdogs and rebels. The documents will still be withheld, they will all continue to destroy America and the lying campaign will continue. Nothing will change.

Easy there. The 20th was always the scheduled date for the contempt vote. Today was the last ditch effort when Holder asked for this meeting hoping to come up with a deal. Tomorrow is C-Day for this whole sorry bunch.

Now the real fun stuff starts. We will find out who has the gonads to do what needs to be done.

Ah, the good old days when the news was actually the news and to the point to boot.

And that was when, exactly? I really wonder if there ever truly was an "objective" press, or was it that in the past (pre-1950s?) reporters were at least open about their biases?

Wake me when that bunch of ^%&#*@& do something besides tell us what they are going to do. Someday. In the future. Eventually. Tomorrow. Next week. Sooner rather than later. I think we have heard all of these and more.

If somehow Holder survives he needs to be a campaign issue.

Could someone please tell me what happens after a person is voted to be in Contempt of Congress? What are the legal consequences and what are the real consequences for Holder?
