In the latest sign of turbulent times at J.C. Penney Co., the mid-price department store chain said Michael Francis, the former Target Corp. executive brought in to help redefine the brand, is leaving the company. In a terse statement issued late Monday, the department store operator gave no reason for the abrupt departure of Francis, who had been on the job for a little over eight months. As president, Francis was responsible for the marketing of a controversial new pricing plan that aims to get rid of hundreds of sales events. He was also oversaw merchandising and product development.
Shares fell nearly 6 percent in after-hours trading.

A big part of the problem is that his marketing strategy did not take into account the fact that women LIKE buying things on sale!
Shopping is no fun without a sale.
I agree with you completely. I’m going to make an effort. “Please stop using the term gay. There is nothing gay about these perverts.”
My wife cannot buy something without telling me how well it fits, how well it will go with her other "things", and how much she saved on it.
I cannot buy anything without saying how powerful it is, how it will go with my other "things", and how much time it will save me.
“Please stop using the term gay. There is nothing gay about these perverts. They are homosexuals, sodomites, plain and simple. I have a lovely sister whose name is Gay and I cringe every time I see the term gay used for perversion. This is their way of making it seem like what they do is OK, and its not. We shouldnt indulge them by using their verbage.”
Their agenda may be completely wrong but like any good follower of Saul Alinsky, the left is very adept of perverting the language to make their perversion seem normal and main stream even when logic would always dictate they were 100% wrong.
While I’m not one of them, that seems to be the case.
There were lots of posts on their facebook page of women complaining about shopping no longer being fun and not feeling like they were getting good deals without coupons anymore.
I’d rather go in, know I’m going to get a good item at a fair price and get out. Shopping has never and will never be fun to me. I get hives just thinking about through racks! But I think I’m in the minority. =D
Penny’s has had my last purchase when I saw their Father’s Day ad.
>>>I have tried for years to get FReepers to use SSAD (same sex attraction disorder) but it is hard to fight the wordsmiths on the left.>>>
Love it!
It's not Alinsky they're following, but Satan - the first twister of words.
How about “Homosexual Queer”?
>Im sure gay ads didnt help, but if you assume this is all about gay ads youd be way off.
Not in my neighborhood - To many that I know, the gay thing was the last straw.
Crow pie, anyone?
I’m Expecting Jerry Sandusky to be named new spokesperson any minute now ...
You always hear in corporate jargon that change is good. You have to be adaptive, exciting, inventive (think outside the box) or you will fall behind. Dependability is considered boring. Like the book who moved my cheese, but sometimes there are consequences for these inventive changes.
But lets look at the examples of failed changes.
Just ask companies like Netflix who made these changes. Or makers of new Coke, Deloreans, Beta machines, and Edsels.
I also did not like the gay ads, but you’re right the problems started before then. Their customer base had become accustomed to weekend coupon sales. You were never going to wean them onto an “every day low pricing” strategy. So having lost their traditional customer base, they set out after a new one (Gays and Metrosexuals) who would never be caught setting foot in JC Pennys.
Michael Francis
This one is a idiot.
Guess somebody actually believed 2% of the population really really really has more money than the other 98%.”””
Seems like “The New Math’ taught for the last 40 years or so isn’t really working.
Penny’s has lost me forever. I really liked their linens, too. Now I will have to search online, I guess.
