Obama administration to offer immunity to up to 800,000 illegals

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration will stop deporting and begin granting work permits to younger illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and have since led law-abiding lives.

The policy change, described to The Associated Press by two senior administration officials, will affect as many as 800,000 immigrants who have lived in fear of deportation. It also bypasses Congress and partially achieves the goals of the so-called DREAM Act, a long-sought but never enacted plan to establish a path toward citizenship for young people who came to the United States illegally but who have attended college or served in the military.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano was to announce the new policy Friday, one week before President Barack Obama plans to address the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials’ annual conference in Orlando, Fla. Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney is scheduled to speak to the group on Thursday.

Under the administration plan, illegal immigrants will be immune from deportation if they were brought to the United States before they turned 16 and are younger than 30, have been in the country for at least five continuous years, have no criminal history, graduated from a U.S. high school or earned a GED, or served in the military. They also can apply for a work permit that will be good for two years with no limits on how many times it can be renewed. The officials who described the plan spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss it in advance of the official announcement.

“Obviously Obama views the granting of amnesty to illegal citizens of other countries as his “emancipation proclamation”.”

One poster on Daily Kos called it:

OBAMA HAS FREED THE HISPANIC SLAVES!!!

I just called by of my Senators offices to ask for their official statement
relating to Obama’s bypassing of Congress and granting Amnesty to illegal alien invaders and the responses from their staff were:
Bennett (D-CO): This is breaking news to us as well and he
does not have a position. Is there a message you’d like to pass along?
Of course, it’s obvious as a Democrat and huge advocate for Obama that he is for Amnesty, but what is his position on Obama
, again, bypassing congress to violate established Federal Law in order to pander to Mexicans?

Udall (D-CO): Asked the same question. Response (from assy clerical man). He does not have a position.
I said he doesn’t have a position on Obama again bypassing Congress in another unconstitional move? No he does not. When might a highly paid Senator have a position or at least on opinion on this issue?
Response: If and when he does, you can find it on his website. I said IF our representative has a position on the constitution, I can find it on his website?
Yes ma’am

The timing is exquisite. Helps take the spotlight off Eric Holder, the economy and a myriad of other Obama fails.

Blatant pandering.

It is a violation of the law and Obama’s oath of office.

Nothing gives him the right to decide which laws to enforce and which laws to ignore.
He took an oath to enforce both.

Obama is not a king or a Soviet Premier, although he thinks he is.

Anything to get the discussion off the economy.

Its a perfect vehicle to get BACK to discussing the economy, if played right.

Maybe ROmney will surprise us and, rather than talking about compassion for the children, starts talking about what this will do to the already depressed job market.

“Obama does not have the power to make laws or selectively enforce them to suit his whim.”

Oh really??
Have you told anyone at CBS/NBC/MSNBC/CNN/NPR/WashPost/NYTimes that?

It should be very clear by now that Democrat Presidents don’t need no stinkin’ Congress, or Constitution, for that matter. They can do anything they want, and are above all laws.

Only REPUBLICANS are subject to silly things like LAWS now.

I suspect the RINO GOP leadership will do or say nothing least it might upset people

Boehner and McConnell must take immediate leadership action to step up to this most serious unconstitutional attack by the executive branch against the legislative branch, or lose whatever small amount of respect, honor or integrity they may still have with Republicans and conservatives (and undoubtedly more than a few "moderates" who care about our Republic).

and his DOJ is suing states that are attempting to purge their voter rolls of illegal aliens

Pure serendipity

This is an important development … in 2000 the Florida margin in Bush v. ALGORE was only 537 votes

Send Gov. Scott an email showing your support

“If the effect of the NVRA (Motor Voter) is to force a state to allow never-eligible non-citizens the opportunity to vote,” he wrote, “then the statute might violate the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution, which guarantees that the right to vote cannot be denied by a dilution of the weight of a citizen’s vote.”

As for the Voting Rights Act claim, Detzner wrote, Florida already received federal permission to remove noncitizens, which is clearly spelled out in Florida law.

What’s more, the Voting Rights Act applies to only five Florida counties — Monroe, Hillsborough, Collier, Hardee and Hendry — and not the other 62 in Florida, including Miami-Dade, where about 1,600 of the 2,700 potential noncitizens were initially identified by the state in a database created by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

About 500 people in Miami-Dade have been found to be lawful citizens and voters, and 13 noncitizens have been found. Two of them might have voted and could face prosecution. The county has been unable to verify the citizenship of more than 1,100 others.

Assuming the purge halts, those people could vote this year — even if some are noncitizens.

"Not a single eligible voter as far, as I know, has been removed from the voter rolls," Scott said Wednesday on WNDB radio in Daytona Beach, according to a News Service of Florida transcript. "Not one. And we’re working to keep it that way."

"Their vote should not be diluted by people who don’t have the right to vote," Scott said. "We need to be reviewing our voter rolls and making sure only those individuals who have the right to vote … are voting."

“This hardly seems like an approach earnestly designed to protect the integrity of elections and to ensure that eligible voters have their votes counted,” said the letter, written by Scott’s hand-picked secretary of state, Ken Detzner, a fellow Republican.

Detzner also submitted a list of four questions that he wants the DOJ to answer:

I’m retired now, but I can assure you absolutely none of the 30+ people I hired included anyone remotely on a work permit, visa or otherwise. If they weren’t a citizen, they did not get hired, period.

Let’s see : suing AZ for defending their state, suing states for requiring voter IDs and now giving work permits to illegals, that last one should help unemployed workers.

Think Romney will even mention this now that he won the primary? I doubt it. The treason party vs the coward party assuming Romney even really objects to this which I doubt.

As I recall this is the Dream Act which Obama couldnt get the votes for.
