A 45-year-old Southfield Township man is recovering after accidentally shooting himself in the groin in Birmingham.
The man a heating a cooling employee had arrived at a home on Wimbleton to do some work around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to Birmingham Police Cmdr. Terry Kiernan.
He has a license to carry a handgun and was wearing the .40-caliber Glock in his front waistband. As he arrived at the job site, he attempted to remove the gun to leave it in the vehicle.
Hes standing in the driveway, he pulls out the gun and it accidentally discharged, Kiernan said.
His (work) partner says Did you just shoot yourself? The victim is just stunned and cant talk for 10 to 15 seconds.
Eventually, the victim said he needed medical treatment and his partner took him to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital.
He was in surgery yesterday but he is expected to make a recovery, Kiernan said.

After this little incident, I should say that those are both certainties.

Remember, he was the most qualified person to handle that glock on the block.

Since they don’t give out Darwin Awards to the living, I propose an annual Plaxico Burress Award.

Never, ever carry a glock-type firearm in your pants waist band. Or you too could get Glock C0ck.Or go off half-cocked.
Personally, I would not carry a Glock w/ a round in the chamber unless it had a New York trigger. aka approx 10 lb pull.

he pulls out the gun and it accidentally discharged, Kiernan said.
.......liar, liar pants on fire!
No such things as a Glock accidentally discharging. You either pull the trigger or a Glock does not go off.

I would put a Glock up against any other semiautomatic when it comes to accidental discharges.
Now if the question is which gun will go off when you pull the trigger that is another issue all together.

There's that completely inappropriate term again - "accidental discharge".
This was a negligent discharge. To put it bluntly, this idiot screwed up. "Accident" implies something beyond the control of the people involved, when that is simply not the case.
"Accidental discharge" is a ridiculous term here. I encourage all to not use it and to discourage its use.
End of rant.

That would seem to be the real question here - Was this idiot using “Mexican carry”.
If he was, this result was entirely predictable. You simply do not carry Glocks without a holster that completely covers the trigger guard.

Thats why I bought a 40 cal. H&K. It has a safety which a glock and many other handguns dont.John Browning's 1911 and his Browning Hi-Power (1935) have multiple safeties.
That said, it's impossible to idiot-proof any firearm. I wouldn't Mexican-carry any pistol, and certainly wouldn't carry one with the business end aimed at some of my favorite parts.
(Depending, the Glock fan may qualify for a Darwin Award.)

Glock has a safety. It’s built into the trigger to make it quick and easy to disengage (a little too easy in my opinion).
That’s why I prefer a Springfield XD. Has a Glock-type safety and a grip safety as well (some models even have a slide safety).
