The Pentagon is planning to hold an event celebrating Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Pride month.
The move comes less than a year after the Defense Department’s “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy toward gay and lesbian service members was repealed.
Pentagon spokeswoman Eileen Lainez said the Pentagon is planning its first event for LGBT Pride month, which will be held later in June. Details about the event had yet to be finalized, she said.
The event for Pentagon employees comes after the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, the 1990s policy wherein gay service members could be kicked out of the military if they disclosed their sexual identity, was repealed last year.
The repeal, passed by Congress in the 2010 lame-duck session, has been implemented thus far with few reported issues from the U.S. military.
The repeal of DADT was one of President Obama’s biggest policy victories for the gay-rights community.
Obama issued a presidential proclamation at the start of the month declaring June LGBT Pride month, where he talked about the repeal of DADT.
"Because we repealed ‘Don't ask, don't tell,’ gay, lesbian, and bisexual Americans can serve their country openly, honestly, and without fear of losing their jobs because of whom they love," Obama wrote.

I couldn’t imagine what besides money would attract anyone to the service now (we used to call them “mercenaries”). To be sent to some far-off toilet as part of the Secular Crusade, to cram birth control and deviance on people who are absolutely opposed to it, makes no sense.
Living veterans of WWII must see very little of the country they fought for in the United States today...

The United States will never institute a draft again; they lost the moral authority to do that when the leaders who sent us to South Vietnam admitted it was a mistake, and successive leaders have normalized ties with North Vietnam as though nothing happened.

Most importantly, the ballot box is where Americans who want to vent are still able to. Anyone can walk into the voting booth sporting ten “I LUV OBAMA” buttons and choose the most far-right, reactionary candidate available. As long as we have that (and the anonymity of the Internet to organize), resistance is NOT futile.

What do you see in this country worth dying for? It is a sincere question, from a “white” man in an environment where the law allows discrimination against me because of my ethnicity and gender; recently my freedom of religion has come under attack by the government as well.
I understood why blacks who were discriminated against as a matter of public policy might be lacking patriotism (using separate bathrooms, eating in the back of restaurants, etc.); I don’t know why white people in the same position would feel any differently.
I don't remember a "Christian pride month" when I was in the Army. I must have missed it.
Please, tell me this is satire...
