House Committee and Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Darrell Issa told BuzzFeed today that he expects 31 Democrats will join Congressional Republicans in finding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for failing to turn over documents relating to a botched gun-running investigation.
Issa, who has risen to national prominence as the point of the Republican spear in investigating alleged Obama administration wrongdoing, called for a committee vote on contempt next week in advance of a full House vote on Holder's conduct in the so-called "Fast and Furious" operation, in which a federal agent was allegedly killed with a gun the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms allowed to be trafficked.
"The real question is, were opening up the data that we have to all the members, so as they start reading specifics of what we know was known and was hidden from Congress, and what wed like to know and been denied, how many of the Democrats will vote with us," Issa said after speaking at the Personal Democracy Forum in New York. "I expect well have about 31 Democrats with us." Issa said under normal circumstances he'd expect the vote to pressure Holder to turn over the documents, but that now he's hoping the president intercedes on Congress' behalf.
"After Thursdays hearing with the Attorney General, no, I dont expect it, but I would hope that the president would second-guess the man that he says he has full faith and confidence in, and tell him that its time to deliver reasonable documents," Issa said.
Issa compared the growing scandal to Iran Contra and Watergate, saying the cover-up is far worse than the "dumb" operation. "This is like Iran Contra, like Watergate, and other embarrassments over the years," Issa said. "The major embarrassment is the delay in being honest and open about it. Its not about something really dumb got done. Dumb things happen in government. But when the GSA did dumb things, once it became public we saw a pretty quick change, certainly Secret Service we saw an even quicker change."
Asked whether his committee would hold hearings to investigate White House leaks, Issa said that while he has jurisdiction to investigate, his committee currently has no plans to. "We have a very busy schedule, and we will coordinate with the other committees [to investigate]," he said, noting that the House and Senate intelligence committees would likely take the lead
Put him in a Prison Zebra suit in prison for 20-yrs.
With any luck holders arrogance will be his ultimate downfall.
This is a win-win for conservatism.
A local conservative talk-radio host had a former member of the DOJ last night discussing Holder. He said that Obama would never let Holder go before the election no matter what happens because his lunatic Leftist base would go ape-shiite if he did.
And if he stays, he is the ultimate albatross around his neck.
Just as we suspected.
Whatever becomes of him needs to be tied to Mr. Skittles as well. Where there is a stink, there is a turd somewhere.
As cover-ups go, this is a big one, but in this case, the operation was in fact far worse than the cover-up.
I heard that they think he’ll produce some docs rat the last minute but it shouldn’t excuse the fact that he has not produced what was asked for in 18 months.
Hopefully something will come of this. A lot of lawmakers are for some sort of punishment, I think.
If it was the last GOP AG, they would have been locked up by now.
This POS should not be above the law and his job should not be political but he has been an openly dimocRATic azz-kisser. In fact the dimocRAT party is under his thumb as I see it.
Sounds like some good old fashioned saber rattling to influence other Democrats. I hope a few more get on board.

OMG, this is serious. They might suspend his House gym pass for a week if he doesn’t cooperate.
This scumbag is looooooong overdue for an ass-kicking after his involvement with Ruby Ridge and Waco!
Thanks kingattax.

In what way was Holder involved in Ruby Ridge and Waco ?
Is there a way Obama could blame Bush? Some Democrat may believe it!
You know that, and I know that, but from the standpoint of trying to get Democrats to cooperate, it's probably better to play up the significance of the cover-up. After all, it's likely that the vast majority of the Democrats had no involvement with the original crime, but will be unable to avoid involvement with the cover-up if they continue to obstruct the investigation. Further, from a damage-control perspective, if it seems that the cover-up is going to grow to be worse than the original crime, then it may be worth abandoning it so it doesn't grow so much, even if doing so would let the original ("minor") crime come to light.
How many “Republicans” will vote FOR Holder?
Not to mention all his bank connections.
Any way we could get Lon Horiuchi AND Holder?
