I never owned a slave. My family never owned slaves. What kind of person thinks that I owe them anything based on the color of their skin?
At the time some Americans owned slaves, my ancestors didn’t own shoes. Reparations should be sought, if at all, from the Arab slave traders who provided them to buyers.
My family were slave owners but darn it it was 175 years ago and not a one is alive today! I am not to blame, nor are my kids etc. I’m sick of hearing the pandering from the left for the sins of our fathers!
Used to be a very popular institution. Lately it's fallen on hard times and virtually no one will admit any of their people were involved.
What does “having ancestors who owned slaves” have to do with the idea of reparations? How does it follow that an innocent descendant of slave owners should fork over hard-earned income to a slave descendant? Should the descendant of an ancestor who murdered someone 200 years ago be compelled by law to pay the same?
My ancestor was a ship’s captain who was murdered by a black member of his crew, who threw him overboard and then murdered the cook, tried to set the ship on fire and slipped overboard into the James River. And no, it wasn’t a slave ship. This happened after the slaves were freed. This “giant of a man”, as reported by the NYTimes, was later apprehended on a train in Havre de Grace wearing women’s clothing. I’m sure they hung his ass.
Wonder what would happen if I showed up at the door of his descendant demanding reparations for the loss of my great, great grandfather’s income. Wouldn’t it be something if that house belonged to Jackson or Sharpton?
You can bet your life, the little daughter of this white victim will never receive a dime from the family of the evil trash that murdered her mother.

Look, man, someone who looked something like you once did something to someone who looked something like them - get it? You’re guilty, and you’re gonna pay - and pay big!
The first black slave was owned by a black man that started slavery. Slavery at the time wasn’t accepted but the black man demanded of the courts to hold another black man as a slave.
In 1653, Anthony Johnson held John Casor as a slave.
