A Gallup poll released on Friday shows 64% of registered Jewish voters currently support President Obama’s re-election, while 29% support Mitt Romney.
“Among Jews, Obama’s current 64% to 29% advantage compares with a 74% to 23% advantage before the election in 2008,” Gallup writes in its new poll, entitled ‘Mormons Widely Favor Romney, Jewish Voters Back Obama’. “Thus, he is running 10 points lower among Jewish registered voters than in 2008, which is five points worse than his decline among all registered voters compared with 2008.”
The Republican Jewish Coalition notes the 29% of Jewish voters who support Romney, represents the “highest level of Jewish support for a Republican presidential candidate in 24 years.”

Just got my mother-in-law to Israel from FL. Last night, we discussed Obama, and she said that she would vote for him again, except she no longer lives in America, so won’t vote. No arguing with a 79-year-old reflexive Dem voter (I tried), so I’m glad we took one more Florida vote away from Obama. That might be all that was needed to tip the scales.
Rather, the majority is descended from Eastern European Jews (most of them from czarist Russia or Poland or Romania) who immigrated to the US earlier, from about 1880 to 1914. Most were poor when they arrived and their European experience made them susceptible to various socialist ideologies which were circulating in their areas of Europe at the time just prior to their immigration.
The Greater New York teachers' unions have significantly lower percentages of Jewish members than they had a generation or two ago, so it's nowhere as much of a factor as you might think.
Many have expected for quite some time that American Jews will trend slowly away from the 'Rats and toward the GOP, as other white ethnic groups have done when they improved their socioeconomic status in the society. Obama has offered them just about every incentive to move that way. This election could accelerate it. The special congressional election in NY-9 last year might have been a harbinger.

They got a moderate (weaselworded doubledealing all things to all men sort) and Wilson got re-elected. Most folks attribute the outcome to Wilson’s promise to “keep us out of war”. Obviously a “moderate” selected by the GOP-e can’t beat a Democrat telling lies.

But regardless of how Jews really vote, the lefty media and its pollsters will be sure to inflate Obama's % beyond that real number. So we'll never know for sure.
Part of the problem in getting an accurate number is practical, particularly determining who is to be selected for interviewing and going ahead and conducting that interviewing. This is by necessity quite cumbersome due to demographics and the relatively small number of Jews scattered in various locales around the country, and even in Israel and other foreign nations. Even if such a challenge is reasonably overcome and a statistically valid cross-section is obtained (orthodox Jews and those of recent Russian origin, who will trend much more to the GOP, are almost always underrepresented, for example), there will be a "Tom Bradley factor" as well (respondents telling the pollster they voted for the black candidate when in fact they didn't). Add to that the pollster's own personal bias in favor of the 'Rats, and you can see how the Obama number will get distorted.
