Today, the small business I work for received a new NY state MANDATORY tax payment order.
We do our taxes quarterly and paid what is owed. We have received notice today since our "taxes" exceed $100,000 on a yearly basis, we are now FORCED to pay these taxes electronically & immediately.
We have no choice. I guess NY just can't wait for the check and is therefore seizing it in a nano-second.
I personally believe this is extortion. We pay our taxes, on time, always, never had a problem.
Now NY state is FORCING us to pay them, electronically, immediately with no representation.
Anyone else with a small business get them same?
So it’s all payroll related right? It’s not like they eye your books and say “hey, you make to much so you have to pay income taxes 24 times a year”?
I don’t see how it’s possible. I don’t make a profit until Dec 31 23:59
I pay payroll taxes every 8 days, Sales tax every month and quarterly Federal SS/Med for myself. I’m a sole pro and my fiscal year coincides with calendar year and I use accrual accounting.
This is what happens when you do business in a socialist banana republic. Get out. Relocate to a more business friendly state. It’s only going to get worse in New York as they run out of “other people’s money”.
I was a manager once when a state tax agent came in and claimed the business was behind in its taxes: if she didn't get a check right then, everything would be seized and the business closed.
It's like dealing the mob.
Yes, I am hard headed....and a Yankee. Was born here, didn’t have a choice.
As an adult, I have nothing but choices. I need to get over a hump or two before I make a move.
My thread was asking if anyone else, small business owners, received the same MANDITORY we did.
Is it too late to HQ in Delaware?
Did the notice specify an electronic address in Nigeria or Russia for the payment? Did someone verify that it wasn’t a scam?
I understand that my FRiend. The south is waiting on you and we dont care if youre from the north either.I have friends in Illinois that are too damned hard headed to move south.I guess it just doesnt suck as bad there yet but it will.I hope you can leave soon.
Yes. We use ADP. They are aware of this. Seems like NY started from the top down.
Amen to that. The thought of leaving home upsets me. The thought of staying upsets me. =(
It’s not my small business. Sorry if I implied that. I work for them and the book keeper, who isn’t too computer lit, couldn’t do it so she asked me to.
I was on the phone w/ ADP ranting and raving about it. Poor girl, lol. She was nice about it though.
Thanks for the response.
