NY unions’ cheesy Wis. recall blitz
New York Post ^ | June 4, 2012 | CARL CAMPANILE

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Fearing their own bargaining rights could be stripped away, members of New York’s powerful unions piled onto planes to Wisconsin in an effort to topple GOP Gov. Scott Walker in tomorrow’s recall election.

Dozens representing, among others, health-care Local 1199 East, building-service Local 32BJ and Local 726 of the Amalgamated Transit Union, are knocking on doors, making calls and handing out fliers to support Democrat Tom Barrett over Walker.

And members from around the country of the Transport Workers Union are badgering voters in the Badger State by cold-calling them using an online phone bank.

Many Wisconsin voters said they’re fed up with union campaigning and accused outsiders of poisoning the political climate.

“It’s a lot of people from outside stirring the pot,” said Steve Tate, 54, of Deforest, who backs Walker. “This recall is a waste of money. We should ride out the tough times and work with one another.”

But Tom Mason, a New York City bus driver and executive board member of ATU Local 726, said he’s worried that Walker’s attacks on union rights will spread to the Big Apple and the rest of the country.

I take it her red scarf is some kind of statement (and not of the fashion variety...)

The fees of those who support Walker are being used to help pay the travelling expenses to Wisconsin. And they wonder why some will leave the union if they get the chance.

Good thing voter ID laws are verboten or they would be disenfranchised.

Walker's fiscal responsibility will spread to the Big Apple and the rest of the country no matter what happens in Wisconsin. There is not enough money in the entire world to satisfy the demands of unions for fat pensions, luxury health care, and early retirement benefits paid for by taxpayers who have not such generous benefits.

The union goons sent out an email last Friday to all State of Arizona workers asking them to help with these phone banks to get Governor Walker thrown out. Whadda country.

Though I know she is out-of-favor here at FR, Coulter had a good article on this last week pointing out that the unions are super-motivated and will turn out in droves; I hope the republicans don't get lulled into a sense of security by the polls.

By the way - please correct me if I am wrong - but weren't the biggest actions by Walker in eliminating some collective bargaining rights to raise retirement and health care contributions, and end the union monopoly on health insurance for teachers. Apparently the union plan was way overpriced. Has anyone done a study to show what the net out-of-pocket effect on teachers was - whether the reduction in health insurance price covered most of their increased contribution?

We were enjoying an early dinner on our patio last night, as were our neighbors next door. A young woman leaned over our neighbor's fence and asked for the woman who lived there by name.

"Hi, G***, I am so-and-so from the AFL-CIO. Do you plan on voting tomorrow?"

G***: "Yes, I am voting"

AFL/CIO girl: "Can we count on your support for Tom Barrett?"

And to my surprise, she said, "no, I am a Democrat and I like Tom Barret, but I will not be voting for him tomorrow"

G***'s husband is a conservative, so I know how he will vote, but I was shocked to hear G*** was voting for Gov. Walker.

And no, AFL/CIO girl did not stop to talk to US. There are 5 solid Walker votes in our household.

They’d better get reconciled to the fact the juicy pension and cadillac health-care plans are coming to an end. The fact the unions aren’t taking into account the dire fiscal straits of their states, speaks volumes about whether they give two sh*ts as to whether those states go bust or not. Just so long as they get theirs.
