Animal Rights Legislation Would Make Eggs a Luxury Food
PJ Media ^ | 6/1/12 | Mindy Patterson

One day soon, America could wake up to a dozen eggs costing $8 or more. And unless you are involved in some aspect of farming or agriculture, you would never know that egg prices are about to skyrocket or the reason why. With food prices already increasing due to high grain and fuel costs, extraneous so-called animal welfare regulations are being imposed on U.S. food producers, large and small, by the animal rights powerhouse known as the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).

Buying chicks this week. As many folks as are raising poultry, I can foresee a movement to have USDA inspect home flocks.

Since eggs are used in nearly everything, from baked goods to pet foods, everything else will go up accordingly..........

Years ago, my Grandma converted her garage into a chicken coop. I might just have to do the same thing.

Two or three years ago there was a reality show about a group of Amish who moved in with some dingbat lib California 20-somethings to see how the other side lived. One of the lib dingbats thought eggs were poor widdle aborted chickens.

Basically what this means is that the powerful egg producer lobby didn’t pay their protection money somewhere along the line and need to be cut down to size. We now solidly live in a world where economic extortion is just the new way of doing things.

When buying chicks, be sure to get as many females as you can. I hear there is a way to tell from the feet.

I've just e-mailed my Congress critters.

The Humane Society, so far as I know, was once a mainstream organization opposed to animal cruelty. But unfortunately we live in a time in which all organizations, no matter how old and venerable, are being radicalized.

Retirement homes for chickens in Portland...city dwellers can keep 3 chickens. Chickens stop laying eggs after a couple of years - the urban chicken farmers can’t bear to kill their old chickens, so the chickens are put out to pasture at a couple of farms.

Humans eating chicken eggs is just “social justice” for the 200+ million years the chicken;s ancestors oppressed our mammal brethren.

I thought the left LOVED social Justice, I get social justice for my species every time I eat at KFC.

This is about control very much like the Soviet Union but also "protein control". You see, Eggs are full of choline which is good for the brain, which is verboten since we can't have libertine thinkers in Obama's Borgish Collective.

I'd love to know the diet of some our famous inventors, Edison, Ford, The Wrights, as well as many other Inventors and Industrialist.

My guess is their were animal fats and protein from eggs that fed their European Heritage Brains fueled by the Liberty of Limited Government to pursue Excellence.

We can't have that now, our American Excellence is the same excellence as you see in Somalia, Iran, North Korea and Cuba of course, and their magnificant inventive societies that have propelled mankind into the future.... ( sarc / off )....

Earlier today I was at a place that sells eggs. These eggs are just eggs, the way people gathered them and ate them for thousands of years. The chickens had not been given hormones, antibiotics for non-medicinal reasons, etc. Eggs like I used to eat at the grandparents’ farm.

I know this because I read the sign that said that because of this, they had to label them as “for pet consumption only” and could not discuss the possibility of said eggs being consumed by humans.

Thank the Good Lord the US government is there to protect me from evil farmers, or from me mistakenly thinking I can make a decision about what is best for me to eat.

My Uncle, now 95, has had chickens for as long as I can remember. And all his chickens die of old age.

He is well known for telling the story about as 12 year-old chicken he had (I’m guessing that that’s a really old for chickens) that had the legs of a young chicken. He said that they weren’t scaly, and looked like a year old chicken’s leg.

He’s been telling that story for over 30 years now :-)

I offered one of my neighbors some lovely fresh eggs some time ago. She looked at me like I was crazy. “I’ll get my eggs from the store, thanks...not from some chickens ass.”
