The USS Illinois, the first Navy submarine to be staffed by an all-female crew, received the support of the White House on Memorial Day.

“Yup, but she didnt take out 100 shipmates”
VERY good point.
Women are intellectually capable of handling a nuclear sub.
My solution? Women don’t belong in combat billets and homos don’t belong in the military.
All bubbleheads think they are “the finest in the fleet”. They make people like Dick Marcinko appear humble.
This has already been pointed out in a post by someone earlier in the thread but everyone was, of course, were too busy enjoying being outraged to have noticed. Another egregious case of media incompetence; for a site where everyone proclaims they hate the "mainstream media" people sure seem to blindly believe obviously mistaken stories a lot.
See this comment on the original story on The Hill website by the SUBFOR PAO:
Hello, this is the Public Affairs Officer for Submarine Forces. The USS ILLINOIS will not have an all female crew. Today the First Lady accepted sponsorship of the USS ILLINOIS and she met with the group of female Submariners that have already reported to Submarines. This group is the first for the US Navy. Currently we have females serving on some ballistic and guided missile Submarines. The USS ILLINOIS will be a Virginia class Submarine. At this time, we do not have any females serving on SSNs. Tried to call your agency to correct, but received an answering machine.
There is no female submarine Officer corp for submarines yet. There will be in the near future, as there are women out there getting their Dolphins. However, an entire crew by 2015, is completely unrealistic. Not only is there very few officers, there are very few enlisted that have senior ranks that are submarine qualifications.
Electric Boat and Newport News Shipyard is building these boats and future classes not to proclude women, but an entire crew seems really absurb. Especially since there isn’t even a qualified junior officer yet that is a women.
Exactly, and that just won’t do.
Conversely a man cant get all slobbery over a woman on a Sub when his shipmates could all suffer or die because of his chivalry.
It’s your job to save the ship, not your girlfriend.
You’ll find most of us most humble.
The submarine fleet is a fleet unto itself. Completely different atmoshphere than anywhere else in the Navy.
I feel so sorry for the Russians, Chinese or whoever when the Master Ovary is enflamed...
Here is a major issue for me.
This stuff is tough enough, you need to go through psych evals and the worst ones happen when you are underway.
On every mission I have been on, bubbleheads that have been through the gamut snap.
They always snap 2 weeks in or 2 weeks from home due to “family issues”
You’ve left everything behind, family, freedom, love, privacy, sleep
We settle in, we focus on the mission and its cool but its tough when you finally get a family gram while you’re in god knows where and it’s a dear john that’s 24 words and demands money to boot.
Who needs that tension on a boat?
Guys who lose focus to this get dealt with severely.
It’s not that we don’t love women.
We do.
But you cant be love struck when the klaxon is howling.
Worse yet, when bad stuff is happening and you cant raise the klaxon.

Its hard to give the girlfriend a good poke or send money when you’re in the middle of no where
First thing I’d do after that when I got back was go to the middle of the desert, set out a lawn chair and a cooler of beer.
Partially to be alone and partially to just suck up the wide open sky. Revel in all the little things
Decompress.
I hope they’re up to the challenge. I would hope they would have waited until the women serving on current subs could be properly evaluated before announcing an all female crew.
The Hill and several other sources have it wrong...
The Moochelle may indeed sponsor the USS Illinois, but the sub will not have an all female crew...
For starters, there is not a female naval officer with the necessary experience to command a submarine...It is just not possible, nevermind practical, to take a surface fleet officer and give her/him command of a submarine...
DAS BOOTy
Pig boat to Fish boat
I agree. Certainly solves the problem of men and women having to share bathrooms, tight living spaces, etc.
I'm sure all these young women are smart; they wouldn't have gotten this far had they not been. This will be a good way to find out if they can also handle the stress of such an assignment.

Parking on land and docking on water are 2 different situations.
