Filings raise more questions on Warren’s ethnic claims

Elizabeth Warren has not proven she has a Native American ancestor, instead saying she based her belief on family lore. US Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren has said she was unaware that Harvard Law School had been promoting her purported Native American heritage until she read about it in a newspaper several weeks ago.

But for at least six straight years during Warren’s tenure, Harvard University reported in federally mandated diversity statistics that it had a Native American woman in its senior ranks at the law school. According to both Harvard officials and federal guidelines, those statistics are almost always based on the way employees describe themselves.

In addition, both Harvard’s guidelines and federal regulations for the statistics lay out a specific definition of Native American that Warren does not meet.

The documents suggest for the first time that either Warren or a Harvard administrator classified her repeatedly as Native American in papers prepared for the government in a way that apparently did not adhere to federal diversity guidelines. They raise further questions about Warren’s statements that she was unaware Harvard was promoting her as Native American.

The Warren campaign declined Thursday to answer the Globe’s specific questions about the documents. In a statement, Warren’s spokeswoman, Alethea Harney, said that “over the past month Elizabeth has answered countless questions openly while the people who recruited her have made it clear it was because of her extraordinary skill as a teacher and a groundbreaking scholar.’’

While I disagree with the affirmative action set aside postion laws, they are the law for now. This woman’s action makes her a thief of another person’s position. How proud she must be of stealing a positon from an Indian or person of color who presumably needs the help to achieve. Let me say again, she is a thief.

what they (the Brown campaign) really need to find now....is some of the minority candidates who were turned down because all of the positions were already filled by “minorities”. Maybe they could run a “Wanted Poster” type ad in the Globe....

And honest people get the shaft trying to comply with laws created and mandated by Liberals. While the same Liberals cheat- cheat - cheat.

She couldn't get senate confirmation for some BS job Barry tried to give her. What made her think getting elected would be any easier? Scrutiny is what comes with politics. Her best move now would be to withdraw with some dignity.

I disagree with your emphasis to a certain extent. Except as it has resulted in the embarrassment and diminished chances of a Liberal politician - always a good thing - the more significant emphasis for me should have been the embarrassment and hopefully diminished chances for such questionable laws in the first place, laws which foster, indeed, almost demand, these sorts of shenanigans.

If the nation and its institutions enact and retain unnecessary laws which are easy targets for violation, and which result in huge payouts and payoffs, the more appropriate focus of the media and of citizens ought to be on the laws themselves. That people will manipulate and violate a law such as this is inevitable, and not likely to change. That we continue to maintain such laws is not inevitable, and can be changed. That this incident (and the predictable media circus we have now been offered for entertainment) has not raised that issue to a major focus, even among conservatives, is disappointing to me.

Disregard (or scorn) of truth is fundamental to Leftist dogma.

The Left serves a "higher truth"--kinda like it serves a "higher morality."

You would think so in a normal state, but this is Massachusetts where “The Swimmer” was re-elected time and time again. Right now Brown leads buy a single point 48% to 47% according to Suffolk University polling.
