WASHINGTON -- Two female soldiers filed suit on Wednesday to scrap the U.S. military's restrictions on women in combat, claiming the policy violated their constitutional rights.
Command Sergeant Major Jane Baldwin and Colonel Ellen Haring, both Army reservists, said policies barring them from assignments "solely on the basis of sex" violated their right to equal protectio under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution.
"This limitation on plaintiffs' careers restricts their current and future earnings, their potential for promotion and advancement, and their future retirement benefits," the women said in the suit filed in U.S. District Court.

But with the way the world works today, this strikes me as another case of sacrificing our military for politics.
So now crucial national defense issues are going to be decided by the black robed crowd.
Our Founding Fathers must be so P.O.-ed right now.
In a worst case scenario: A man could BODILY transport his comrade out of danger.... could SHE?
What soldier worth the name doesn't see the life-and-death implications, lunacy and basic inequity of this?

Using the military for social engineering. Bad move America. Bad, bad move.
I am vehemently opposed to putting someone into combat BECAUSE of their gender.
I would give them their wishes and assign them to an outpost which experiences heavy casualties, and order them to PERSONALLY lead patrols.
The next step is to write a law that forces life insurance carriers to cover all citizens, everywhere, even the ones on the battlefield.
Wonder what that’ll do to ins rates !?
Hmmm, future earnings?
Maybe somebody should tell the nice CSM that she is just about maxed out on military earnings. There ain’t no E-10 for the average CSM.
We can get away with this social engineering crap now, because the margin of capability between us and our current foes is so large that this factor is overpowered.
When we fight a foe who is closer to us in terms of overall capability, we are going to regret this, with blood.
And, I guarantee, when it happens, the ones who will scream the loudest and longest in protest, wondering how this could have happened, are going to be the very architects of the decline.
Fine they want to be in combat? Okay, you meet the EXACT SAME physical criteria as the male soldiers. Same march requirement, pack weight requirement, same number of pushups pullups etc. If you can’t do the job, tough sh#t.
OK but no Tampax and no porta-potties.
They must be stupid. If they win, kit up, send them to Afghanistan. Let them climb mountain trails for weeks at a time, then get a limb blown off. What fun.
What do they think they are missing? Blood? Death? Mental health issues? Loss of limbs? Exhaustion? Fear? What? What the he’ll do they think they are missing out on?
There exists an entire generation of women (and men) who have gleaned their understanding of the relative physical and combat capabilities of men and women from watching Hollywood portrayals of hand to hand combat between the sexes. In CSI, GI Jane and innumerable other productions, small, petite women engage larger, more muscular men, and decisively defeat them on a consistent basis.
It can happen. There are women who can and will defeat larger, more powerful men. But the averages stipulate that in reality, that simply will not happen consistently.
Real hand to hand combat involves actual muscle, and when two humans both want to live as much as their opponent, it becomes not a battle of will, but a physical battle.
And critical engagements in full combat often descend into important clusters of physical battle. Whoever wins most of those can win the engagement, the battle and eventually, the war.
The CSM & Colonel are old enough to have a daughter in the service, or thinking about joining. I’ve seen the most ardent sexist, male officers suddenly become all equal-opportunity when their daughter/only child expresses an interest in the family business.
I see the enemies of a strong US Military are hard a work once again. I thought maybe they would take a break after winning the right of open homosexuals to serve openly in our forces. (That should do wonders for recruiting and retention). But no, now it is on to putting women into combat. A horrible idea on it’s merits, but even worse is that once women are not prohibited from combat there is no sound legal reason to exempt women from a military draft. So what happens when the nation needs to draft but not only young man but young woman are to be drafted too? Anyone?
Been going on for decades now - just accelerated in the mid-'80s and has sped up faster than the economy has slowed down.
Can picture such female soldiers filling out a questionaire and when they get to:
SEX : M/F ___
thinking before answering:
"F - I haven't had to M in years"
Exactly my thoughts. Also add carrying a wounded 200+ lb man to the list.
If they can meet all the same criteria, Why Not?
Also, women capable of meeting these requirements are rare and unlikely to be a distraction for male troops. It might actually be the other way around...
How this started in the first place is disgusting. To think that women have any place anywhere near combat is stupid.
1) It puts an extra burden on her male counterparts to look over his shoulder at his little female soldier as to where she is and how she is. Instead of looking straight at the enemy, now he has to watch out for her welfare. They don’t talk too much about the female captain who sat in her jeep and cried during the Granada invasion., do they?
2) Nothing like a female POW for the enemy (and our enemies are now savages) to rape, molest, and torture. Ala Jessica Lynch. Don’t hear too much about her anymore since the feminazies couldn’t get past her treatment by the savages.
3) For every place in the unit held by a female, some man (usually bigger and stronger) gets replaced.
4) And I could go on and on
I’d rather use a hole in the ground than a porta-potty.
