In 1968, the political world was shocked when President Lyndon Johnson, running for reelection just four years after a landslide victory, was held beneath 50% of the vote in the Democrat primary in New Hampshire. Sen. Eugene McCarthy scored a shocking 41.5% of the vote against the incumbent President.
The result confirmed Johnson's weakness going into the November general election. Within weeks, Sen. Robert Kennedy announced he would seek the Democrat nomination for President and Johnson announced that he would not. LBJ was bowing out of his reelection bid.
Today, the Obama reelection campaign is reeling from his disastrous performance in the Democrat primaries in Arkansas and Kentucky.

he was an enigma (and a horses a$$)...on one hand he wanted to fight communism and on the other hand he was making America a socialist nightmare....which we are still trying to turn around.
Just the opposite, Marshall law will be use to keep him in office.
O LOVES being the center of attention. My guess is he doesn’t really like the work of being president, and wishes he could have all the attention without the work - witness all his vacations. I think he likes campaigning, because it’s filled with adoring fans who “faint”.
LBJ I always got the impression he was sorry he became president. He liked the wheeling and dealing behind the scenes. I think he liked being a “power broker”, and was a manipulating control freak. Look at the legislation he pushed through - most of it was about controlling people.
George Bush I think truly wanted to help his country, and had it pushed in him from a young age this was how you serve. Notice how he avoids the limelight. He actually sneaks into hospitals, rather than allow pictures, unlike the self-absorbed O.
Clinton is the first president I ever saw who I felt really just loved being president. He really likes the job, all the way through.
You couldn't pay me to be in a big city on election night.
NO.
LBJ, for all his faults, was still an AMERICAN.
This guy is a sociopathic narcissist that will instead DOUBLE DOWN on his re-election campaign, slinging mud, making up crap and outright lying to the American people because he knows the MSM will roll over and play along...............
>>is obama any less popular with the left than romney is with the right?<<
Surprisingly, yes.
Go over to the Big sites. They actually LIKE Romney. And from what I’ve seen of people on Twitter, Obama has lost his shine with the dems.
With Rs, it’s mixed. I think people dislike Romney but Hate O. With the libs, you throw anyone up and he/she will stick like glue. Especially a woman.
I guess that’s the crux of the dilemma. While unpopular with certain factions on each side, will the candidates’ voters turn out?
Even though I don’t have much respect for Romney, I’ll turn out and vote - maybe even punch the ticket for him. But, I’m damned, damned sure I’m gonna vote down-ticket, hard line to hopefully help get a Congress and Senate backstop emplaced that could keep Obama, or Romney for that matter, hogtied. As long as a two-house majority exists, then all I have to do here in Georgia is threaten holy hell to Chambliss and Isakson to keep them in line (a couple of backsliding politicians if you aks me).....
really....I think I am more afraid of Hillary than BHO.
zer0 is an openly Marxist POS.
Hillary is much more subtle, but just as left leaning...
>>You couldn’t pay me to be in a big city on election night. <<
Ya got that right.
Pull out? Don’t we wish! No such luck.
“Of course, I don’t think Obama will have the self-awareness of LBJ and drop out of the Presidential campaign. And, I certainly don’t believe the media will revisit their old contention that an incumbent president losing 40% of his own party’s vote is a sign of vulnerability. I expect they’ll sweep it under the rug and pretend it doesn’t mean anything special.”
Mr. Flynn knows that Obama would never drop out even though behind the scenes many Democrats are praying — oops — “hoping” that he would.
+1 here. I truly believe that martial law will be declared on some engineered pretext before the elections, the Constitution suspended indefinitely and so on. The Socialist is too full of himself to lose so its going to get bloody. I am too old to go at it like I could in my mid twenties but I was well trained and I am still pretty well equipped.
You’re exactly right. His ego simply won’t allow it.
“Theyve got something big planned for October.”
Agree.
The “October surprise” the Democrats have planned I assume will deep six Romney.
I've been getting e-mails stating that a whistleblower says that Obama has plans to declare martial law, and deleting them. Looks like I'll have to read the next one!
No way he’ll drop out. Mooch-elle would kick his skinny homo ass. Who would pay for these lavish multi-million dollar vacations? Her? No way. He’d get his ass kicked by the yeti that he lives with.
No way, no how. In 1968, LBJ had just won the New Hampshire Primary by 7% over Eugene McCarthy, not a convincing margin. Robert Kennedy was tuning up to run, and in my opinion might have gotten the nomination.Absolutely correct. LBJ lost the stomach for a bruising and humiliating primary battle (with its very likely outcome of an extremely humiliating defeat). Nothing like that is even remotely going on right now. This idea of Obama stepping down is a childish fantasy along the lines of belief in Santa Claus, or a belief that Obama will be impeached because of his Kenyan birth.
Earth to conservatives: the only way to rid ourselves of The Great Usurper is to defeat him in the general election in November.
In the parts of the world Obama adores so much, the end to political office thru elections means death. That’s the way in Islam and the third world around the globe. If you lose in those places and you don’t sneak out on election evening on a jet to France along with your family and loot, you’re not going to see the sun rise or hear those beautiful sounds of calls to prayer anymore.
