Dallas-based pizza chain, Pizza Patron, is giving away free pepperoni pizzas to customers who order their pies in Spanish.
the company says is a way to reach out to and build their already largely-Latino clientele, is sparking outrage.
Marcela Gomez, president of Hispanic Marketing Group, a Latino marketing firm in Nashville, told USA Today that "maybe they thought it was a cute thing to do, but I think it's discrimination."
In a press release announcing the promotion, which has been dubbed 'Pizza Por Favor,' the company said the pizza promo is an effort to promote the "positive force of change immigrants have made..
In 2007, the company adopted another attention-grabbing marketing strategy that is still raising eyebrows: Pizza Patron started accepting Mexican pesos for payment.

Dallas Pizza Patron accepting Mexican pesos for payment?
Oh yeah!
Is that even legal to accept pesos for payment? Wouldn’t they have to have some kind of banking/currency exchange license to do that?
I am guessing Mexican pesos will accepted for those not speaking Spanish....Otherwise for Spanish speakers its free.
LOL!
Nevvvver been there...
.
As a form of protest, why don’t we gringos learn how to order a pizza in Spanish and order one on the promo day? Hit the company where it counts!
Oh sure, but only if ya don't speak Spanish...If ya speak Spanish, it's free, on the house!
The American tax payers are quite familier with this type of thing.
wow....
I really don’t have a problem with this, so long as the converse is also acceptable.
No, you must speak Spanish for favor and free Pizza. All others must pay.
As long as they're a private company, I don't care.
I hope that ALL their customers speak Spanish and get a free pizza.

I’m not offended by any of this. They have selected a market niche and are appealing to that niche. There are hundreds of other pizza chains that cater to the English-speaking market so why be upset with one that wishes to cater to a Spanish-speaking market?
I realize that if an English-speaking chain pandered to English speakers like this that there would be protests and charges of discrimination but that isn’t the business’ fault - it’s the fault of leftist rabble-rousers.
All private companies get to do what the want in today's America, with no government intrusion whatsoever.
Isn't it wonderful!
Nice cheap way to get a lot of publicity. If it was my shop I’d give ‘em away free if you ordered in Latin. Make ‘em work for their free slice.
I’m not bothered either. If I lived there I would porbably order a pizza in Spanish just to see how good it is. And FWIW, I live near the Canadian border and many businesses accept Canadian currency.
I don’t see the issue. This is a business decision to target a segment of the market.
When the government mandates that companies conduct business in any particular language, etc. then I will care.
I’d place an order in Portuguese. It’s close enough, right?
Volo unum magna pepperoni pizza
