Volusia County School officials stand by a Deltona High School nurse's decision to refuse a student his inhaler during an asthma attack, citing a lack of a parent's signature on a medical release form.
"It's like something out of a horror film. The person just sits there and watches you die," said Michael Rudi, 17. "She sat there, looked at me and she did nothing."
He said the school dean found his inhaler during a search of his locker last Friday. The inhaler was still in its original packaging -- complete with his name and directions for its use; however, the school took it away because his mother hadn't signed the proper form for him to have it.

It’s a government school. It’s about union contracts, sick time, early retirement and medical benefits. It’s about the union employees and the work rules.
These annoying students have nothing to do with the school’s mission
Some people are more concerned with following procedure, than results. Conformity is rewarded, and no discretion is tolerated. Dull-witted people plus beauracracy, and there you go.
You’d think we have enough rules and regulations by now, wouldn’t you? We’ve reached the point where the law itself is becoming unjust. Last night there was a thread about a student who was fined $675,000 for uploading 30 songs on the Internet. Here we have a nurse who legally could have sat there and done nothing while a student died. She might have followed the law, but she was doing evil.
It’s like the Good Samaritan story in the Bible. Who was good? Was it those who would have let the traveler die rather than render aid on the Sabbath (obeying the law), or the Samaritan? The Samaritan violated the letter of the law, but he obeyed the spirit of the law.
You’re in a position to show that a school, inept enough to hire this excuse for a nurse, is so competent that it never failed to distribute, collect and maintain necessary forms ever?
Or did you forget the sarc/ tag
Forget the “school rules”...
That nurse should lose his/her license!
News Flash: Huge Governmental Bureaucratic Monopoly behaves like a Huge Governmental Bureaucratic Monopoly.
Why would anybody expect a public school employee to care about children?
The only time my children see the inside of a public school is when I take them with me when I vote!
The lawyers are only turned loose by a public hungry for revenge or money or both.
You would have to be a sadist to simply watch someone suffer an asthma attack and not help them, if you could help them. This nurse needs to do some serious soul searching.

Yes, you’re right and I believe I at least alluded to that. The problem here is that they ‘will’ take those cases even the ones that they should laugh out of the office.

Whatever you do, never let a Vogon read you poetry!
Wait for it........the kid will get expelled for having drugs in his locker.
Common sense if dead!
My daughter’s school - all medications must be turned into the school nurse. Kids with asthma are not allowed to carry their own inhalers. ALL medications must be administered by the nurse, with a release from the parents and a doctor’s authorization.
You forgot your sarcasm tag.
How was it not the same? Texas’s comment pointed out the gross hypocrisy inherent in requiring “parental consent” within the schools.
Court is a problem in itself. The focus today in court is the flow of money. First did you hire a lawyer? If not the court will punish you if did not. Second, is your lawyer connected in the inner circle of lawyers and judges? Favors by judges are handed out that way. Third, will the state get a fine? You will pay heavy fines unless you can buy an expensive lawyer and prove you did not do for whatever you are there. Then there is family court. This court is a violation of the Constitution. I watched an ex-wife lie on the papers she filed. The husband could prove it but they ignored it. Her mother admitted to stealing an AR-15 on the witness stand. She had no reason to do this. The court just ignored these crimes.
This is so important for people to comprehend. Doing what is right and compassionate is the beneficial spirit of all law.
There are too many authorities, scumbag lawyers and judges taking advantage of strict interpretation of "law" and using it for evil.
Words have meaningS.
**Have you got a 27B-6?**
That is criminal
