Facebook bans mother for posting photos of baby with birth defect

A Mid-South mother has been banned from Facebook for the photos she posted of her newborn son.

Grayson James Walker was born on February 15, 2012. He was born with Anencephaly, a rare neural tube birth defect in which a baby is born without parts of the brain and skull. Action News 5 shared the Walker's story about their sons eight hours of life shortly after he died.

Heather Walker recently posted pictures of Grayson without his hat on.

"Not long after, Facebook deleted them because of the content" she said. "They allow people to post almost nude pictures of themselves, profanity, and so many other things but I'm not allowed to share a picture of God's beautiful creation."

Walker and her Facebook friends decided to re-post baby Grayon's photos in protest, and the mother is now on a 24-hour ban from the social networking website.

According to Facebook's community standards page, there are nine types of content that may be deemed offensive and removed: •Violence and Threats •Self-Harm •Bullying and Harassment •Hate Speech •Graphic Violence •Nudity and Pornography •Identity and Privacy •Intellectual Property •Phishing and Spam

Walker says her photos of Grayson do not fall into any of those categories.

"I see all kinds of stuff, women's body parts, almost nudity, which is one of their standards, people cursing each other out, just profanity," said Walker.

Amazed at the amount of support she's received from all over the country, Walker says the photo is raising awareness.

"Just in two days, all these people have messaged me telling me how much God has used Grayson's life to touch them and to work in their hearts and to make them appreciate the children they have, that they have healthy children," she explained.

In post #2, I'll like to the pictures.

I know that children with anencephaly don't look like a healthy baby would. I read a statistic that 95% are aborted. That statistic makes sense because 90% of Down Syndrome babies are aborted, and this is far more serious than Down Syndrome and is fatal. It's argued by the pro-abort crowd that the "humane" thing to do would be to abort a child with anencephaly or other disorders, defects, or conditions so the child doesn't suffer. Should a child be killed in the womb because the child is not healthy and is going to die anyway?

The pictures could be disturbing to some people as could pictures of people with other disorders, defects, or conditions. So what? Does Facebook ban people who post pictures of themselves or relatives or friends with other disorders, defects, or conditions, especially if those people are older babies, children, or adults? Does that not go against their anti-discrimination and anti-bullying policy? Why did Facebook ban this woman? Was it merely because the pictures were disturbing or that they considered her and her husband "cruel" for not aborting the child before birth?

Grayson wasn't perfect; he was born with a disorder. He and children with anencephaly are still made in the image of God; they just happen to have a severe medical disorder. People are not all "perfect", but people are perfectly loved by God. This child was loved and beautiful to God and his parents, siblings, and family.

If the mother did this out of love, I'm not sure I'd want to be holding that Facebook stock.

If we all "thumbs up" their face book page, does the birth defect go away?

That's how FaceBook works, right?

My nephew, Christian Elijah, was born with Anencephaly, in 1980.

He lived an hour and a half and will always be my nephew.

If there was ever a child of God it’s Grayson. The FB nazis wouldn’t understand that.

If someone was posting pictures of babies with birth defects in order to make fun of them, that would be worth deleting. These parents clearly wanted to show their love for their child, as he was.

The pictures of the family holding the little guy are touching, even for the short time he was here, he was loved and has made an impact on all of them.

“A Mid-South mother has been banned from Facebook for the photos she posted of her newborn son.”

I’m not sure I believe all of this.

Would Facebook BAN her if this was her first “offense”?

I’d think they would simply delete the photo and send her a stern warning.

Perhaps I’m wrong, but this is IPO day and FB is suddenly the “one percent”.

Awww! You were blessed to have him, even if the time was so brief.

There was a woman on a pro-life forum I used to post on who had a son with anencephaly. She was Catholic and spoke of her son often, telling his story to advocate against abortion and encourage mothers given the heartbreaking diagnosis not abort. To her, there was peace in not having her son killed but allowing him to die a natural death.

You can probably find pedophile groups easily on FB, but they apparently don’t offend liberals.

I thought I would be disturbed, but the photos were beautiful.
