Lawmakers are scrambling to save the summer concert season from federal agents poised to seize the instruments of rock and country stars because the wood used to make them may have been illegally harvested--and without their knowledge.
I dont want the musicians from Nashville who are flying to Canada to perform this summer to worry about the government seizing their guitars, said Tennessee Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander.
Alexander, whose state is home to famed Gibson Guitars used by bands and stars like Van Halen, the Allman Brothers, Sheryl Crow, Ted Nugent and Paul McCartney, said Friday that he and Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden are working to protect the artists, their instruments and makers and eventually change the law governing illegal wood harvesting.
Senator Wyden and I are going to write the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service a letter in the next couple of weeks and try to make it clear that wood harvested before 2008 to make musical instruments cant be seized by the federal government, Alexander said in a statement. The Justice Department and Fish and Wildlife have said they have no intention of doing that, but Sen. Wyden and I are going to make it absolutely clear. We hope to get a clear ruling within a few weeks, and if we cant get a clear ruling, well introduce legislation to change the Lacey Act.

Tell established acts like The Who, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, AC/DC, and even Femi Kuti that the instruments they’ve owned for decades are at risk of being confiscated by customs as they enter the US on tour.
Oh, Jeff Beck is one of my all-time favorites dating back to the 1970s! I haven’t seen him live in a long time. I hope he was good.
Johnny was the boss man. He played while seated and looked kind of frail walking out. It took a few songs for him to get warmed up and for the house to get the sound together. But he played a nice long show and by the middle of it he was on fire and sounding great!
After his set he came out with his old Gibson Firebird and did a double encore, Dust My Broom and Highway 61 Revisited. It sounded perfect! Big, loud, clear and just as down and dirty as a man could possibly want!
Johnny still has it for sure! He’s a true living legend!
“I hope he was good.”
Oh he was! “A Day In The Life” was amazing,,, and “Rollin’ and Tumblin’” >> Killer!
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Won’t sieze instruments made before 2008? You don’t suppose some of the best tend to keep the best instrument year to year. Yah, the feds will sieze them guitars.
Ja, das ist Schadenfreude.
I hope these mostly lefty-leaning musicians are enjoying the guvment’s attention.
Go ahead, vote demonrat again.
The creeps are getting what they deserve.
Wait, I forgot to check! Was this a Semmen’s?
this is such bullsh!t...
But our “leaders” don't care about that, do they?
I sorta think the premise of the article is a stretch. Maybe just PR for some lawmakers.
AxeGoebbels and JarrHimmler want a Gibson. Maybe Malia or Sasha want some lessons.
....but I'll be damned if we hardly (if ever) heard about the Dept of the Interior, Army Corps of Engineers, Dept of the Agriculture, Bureau of Land Management, Dept. of Energy, Dept of Transportation, Commerce Dept, Dept of Education or least of all, Fish and Wildlife (WHO BTW, JUST HAPPEN TO ALL HAVE THEIR OWN "SWAT TEAMS") taking on a life of their own, with what appears to be a Crusade (that's to drive any Moonbats crazy who happens to be lurking) against honest, hard working folks with no other intentions, than to make everyone's life miserable.
Talk about your Central-Planning, Nanny-Statist, Big-Gubmint, Out-of-Control, Bureaucracies.
I predict that sooner, rather than later, when "we the people" have had enough, there will be a "push back,"" and it ain't gonna' be purty!!!
Elect a constitutional sheriff in your county and the federal fascist sheep will never show their pig faces.
The Obama thugs aren’t interested in the rappers who might have illegal weaponry or guns....only rockers who might have wood. Obama hasn’t had wood in YEARS so he is naturally jealous.
...federal agents poised to seize the instruments of rock and country stars because the wood used to make them may have been illegally harvested -- and without their knowledge.Remember in November.
That was a thought - how many fans, security guards, roadies, entourage members vs. how many feds?
There might not be too much left of the little fellers.
