Congressman Joe Pitts, a republican from Pennsylvania recently told a constituent that former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and former Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat, should try to to “restart a peace process that has collapsed”
Arafat has been deceased since 2004 while Sharon has been in a coma for over 5 years now.
“With the global war against terrorism, it is now incumbent on Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Yasir Arafat to clamp down on Palestinian extremists that have perpetuated violence and to restart a peace process that has collapsed,” Pitts wrote to the father of Ian Rhodewalt in a letter dated April 20th, 2012.
Rhodewalt is a writer for Mondoweiss, which covers Middle East affairs as well as Israeli-Palestinian related issues.
“Apparently, my congressman believes that the solution for peace in the Middle East will be reached by encouraging negotiations between a vegetable and a dead man,” Rhodewalt wrote earlier this week.
Pitts is blaming his staff for the letter. It does show all politicians how closely they must monitor things that go out under their name.

“...his spokesman, Andrew Wimer, said it was Pitts’ staff that made the mistake.
“Rep. Pitts certainly knows who currently leads the Israeli and Palestinian governments,” Wimer said. “Congressman Pitts responds to tens of thousands of constituent inquiries a year. Because it is impossible to draft a unique reply to each inquiry, language is often reused for similar responses. In this case, a double mistake was made. Language that should have been archived was included in a draft response.
“Responding to tens of thousands of letters a year is a complicated process. Mistakes are both few and rare, but do sometimes occur. This one was particularly embarrassing. We have apologized to the constituent and are reviewing our internal process to make sure this sort of thing can’t happen again.”
Tom Nale of Kennett said he recently saw Pitts and said he is certainly up on current events.
“I know he visited Israel quite a few times recently,” Nale said.”
A good conservative, so the media will probably pound on this mistake every day.
Yeah, I was just about to write a post saying I doubt there are any Congressmen in the House who have written a single letter to a constituent in years. That’s just not done anymore. Form letter are the rule of thmb. I something needs to be written to address a specific person’s question aids write the letters. The Representative probably never sees most of what is written in his/her name.
They have a better chance than the living and the awake...

I was thinking along the same lines. Fortunately, I haven't heard anything on it in the MSM since it broke.
Could Congressman Pitts have lucked out? The lefty MSM is now obsessed with Facebook and its IPO - and isn't saying much about the much more significant recent stock market declines and the European socialist economic disasters that are precipitating them. Today, I was in a brokerage office after a brutal day for investors, and MSNBC's financial coverage, eminating from a large screen TV, was wall-to-wall Facebook. Could Obama's running for re-election possibly have something to do with their perverse priorities?
It is really hard to believe this man could be so dumb. And, darn it, he’s a Republican. How could he not know this about the two men? If he was my Rep., I’d never vote for him again - he is too dumb to live.
There are religious people who, using certain scripture, believe the rapture will happen when Sharon dies. I don’t diss these people because they are Bible scholars, not kooks. If they are right, then Sharon needs to move on so Christians can get out of here before the Nov. election.
That would leave Hussein and Romney to fight it out for the non-Christian voters left. Think about that...

Wow, embarrassing.
This was in response to a constituent letter. Staff handles writing those replies, and Pitts’ spokesmen has blamed them.
I heard that Joe Stalin, FDR and Winston and were getting together for tea...
