In one of the most talked-about moments from the hit TV show Glee, Blaine declared his love for Kurt and then they kissed.
Glee is just one of many popular shows on television right now that feature gay characters. Those characters aren't just entertaining us, they're changing Americans' attitudes toward homosexuality.
In five separate studies, professor Edward Schiappa and his colleagues at the University of Minnesota have found that the presence of gay characters on television programs decreases prejudices among viewers.
"These attitude changes are not huge," he says. "They don't change bigots into saints. But they can snowball."
Schiappa tells weekends on All Things Considered host Guy Raz that indeed, as Vice President Joe Biden said last Sunday, the hit TV show Will and Grace really did help America get to know gay people.

TV is watching you and telling you what to think.
We're the victims and in our own home. Never watch the show. And there's no such thing as homophobia.
I remember being approached at the Y when I was 12. I quit the Y and joined a thespian group at the Museum.
Of course...if you know what you are looking at you can use it against them. I point out every piece of liberal propaganda I can find to my kids. Unfortunately, too many don't know what they are seeing.
They have been purposely inserting a gay character into almost every TV show and most movies for 15 years or more.
Of course these characters are always portrayed in a positive light completely unlike how gays actually are in real life. So the average person who doesn't know any gays starts to think... hm.. I didn't know they were just like us... but just liked the same sex.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Gays live horrible lives filled with destructive behavior, depression, disease and death. Plus most that I have known personally are very petty and have a tendency to back stab others, and talk behind their back.
If gays were portrayed on TV like they actually are in real life their inclusion on many TV series wouldn't be helping their image.
Attitudes toward homosexuality started in the late 60’s TV programs and progressed along with socialism.
My wife used to chide me when I would begin railing about the then subtle fag agenda as it crept into the TV shows. Finally it got to the point where she admitted I was right all along. We now just watch reruns of pre 80’s TV shows.
I was brought up with a decent moral compass. I don’t need nor want some subliminal fag agenda, or any other agenda dealing with anti gun, one world, feminism, drug use, or uninhibited sex beamed to me 24/7.
It’s called the “jamming” technique. Making homosexuality appear to be far more pervasive than it is, and disparaging those who oppose it as bigots.

That is exactly why I do not watch the show..It hasn't changed any-ones attitude everyone I know still think the creeps are sick..
No wonder I’m such a homophobe. I haven’t had TV since 1997.
I wouldn’t say 15 years. The garbage on today was not on when I was growing up. We had our own garbage, but it wasn’t this bad. I don’t recall any gay agenda on the more successful shows like Seinfeld or Friends... though definitely some metrosexual pimping.
I am really getting tired of being called a bigot because I believe God’s word. And I will not watch shows that push homosexuality. The generation of teens these days have had homosexuality pushed on them as normal and something to be proud of in schools and in mass media. Most have not been taught the Bible. The homosexual agenda will soon have no resistance at all. I am almost ready to give up and just leave it to God, but I worry about His judgment on America. Of course, I believe part of His judgment was giving us Obama.
--I can almost see the trailers "he loves children, even if a little too much, truly he loves them". Man, the ideas just keep coming!
The one I could think of, from that time period, was Will and Grace.
Don’t give up on young people. An earlier generation also had it drilled into their heads that abortion was OK. Yet, the younger generation today is becoming more and more pro-life. The relentless propaganda has to be countered. People have to fight to keep it out the public schools, decided to home school, or send children to safe religious schools where they will be taught the truth. We never give up.
“And there’s no such thing as homophobia”
Respectfully disagree.
Homosexuals are homophobes. They insist on being called “gay” instead.
—I dont recall any gay agenda on the more successful shows like Seinfeld or Friends... though definitely some metrosexual pimping.—
When I had TV, any homosexual (I refuse to use the word “gay”) characters were comic relief. They were overly effeminate and silly, and great with interior design.
Now they are portrayed as “normal” quite often. In the Movie “Best of Show”, one half of the buggering couple IS the over the top, over sexed “queer” “female side” (but a woman who acts like that is an embarassment) and the “butch” side was a “normal” guy that you would never know preferred men.
When one has been away from TV as long as I have been, when you ARE exposed to it and see a homosexual character and how they are portrayed, they are repulsive.
Interestingly, my oldest daughter’s best friend is a homosexual and he is the classic “one of the girls, let me do your hair” funny guy pervert. A lot of them are, actually.
It’s a rare TV show or movie these days that doesn’t try to propagandize viewers. I don’t watch crap. Fortunately, that saves me a lot of time to spend on more rewarding pursuits, like reading articles on Free Republic.
