The Minnesota Senate has approved a financing plan for a new Vikings stadium. By a 36-30 vote the afternoon of Thursday, May 10, senators passed the bill to fund a new $975 million stadium. The bill now heads to Gov. Mark Dayton for his signature. Dayton has been a ardent support of the bill. The Senate vote came hours after the Minnesota House gave its support to the plan. The deal is a compromise bill after a conference committee ironed out differences between earlier versions. A key change was requiring the team to pay an additional $50 million than first proposed.

GOODY yet ANOTHER venue for my PACKERS to kick “Viking” A$$ in!
yet another govt debt creator ... to be paid by the local govt? hardly. their shortfall will be covered by the feds ... in other words, our federal income tax
if they didnt take one dime of govt money, at any level, then I’d have no problem with this
When you care enough to play on/in the VERY BEST:

does that happen ANYWHERE any more with the NFL?
all the leftist sports writers around here are singing the praises of Gov. Googlyeyes and his couragous arm twisting of his fellow leftist cohorts in the legislature for passing this despite their hatred of evil billionaires and millionaires.
IMHO, asking Statists to spend other people’s money isn’t a herculean task.
Why? If the Vikings want a new stadium, let the Vikings pay for a new stadium.
But wait, some may say. A stadium is good for the local economy. It brings jobs and money to the area.
Well, a Pizza Hut would the exact same thing in my area. Should my state therefore be building pizzerias for the Pizza Hut corporation?
so I guess the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome won’t be around to serve as the new capitol for a post-apocalyptic United States after all...
Do the Feds build NASCAR tracks anywhere? I think NASCAR has more fans than NFL football does. Just curious.
Anybody know if they are gonna steal[eminent domain] any of the proposed land? I know some of the land is owned by the Star Tribune.
I’ll never understand why taxpayers are put on the hook to finance private enterprise.
If they indeed to finance the stadium, do they not also have a right to a measurable percent of the profits (in addition to the normal scraps sports gods choose to throw back to the state)?
If the team is so d*mned wanted, then the “owners” should be able to pay all costs.
The bridges aren’t safe, but by gum we got ourselves a brand spanking new stadium.
That’s ok. Next bridge that falls , it will still be Pawlenty’s fault.
How about the deep impact it'll have to the local economy which does better with the old stadium, as there's less bells and whistles there to encourage spending, which means more money available to spend elsewhere before and after the game?
Ahh, yes, I can see it now. ‘Put a stop to the corrupt greed of millionaires’ will say the text, as Obama takes a striking pose against welfare for millionaires..
or crickets.. Crickets chirping seem to be just about as likely.
couldn’t they just takeover Camp Snoopy, add a retractable roof build an intimate stadium and then ya could shop eat and drink ‘til ya drop before and after games.. just askin’ :-]
I am proud to say I sat in a game in the snow at the ol’ Met. My older brother, since deceased and a 101st Screaming Eagle, took me as a kid. The Vikes won. Purple People Eaters .. now they eat quiche and drink wine..
A domed stadium, I presume? Can’t have the girls playing in the cold. They might get, well, cold or something.
If they were smart, they wouldn’t build a dome....four NFC titles playing outdoors, 0 NFC titles playing indoors.
The new stadium map that the vikings have posted on their website shows the "Red Star's" building and land marked as "Future development opportunities".
Otherwise the new plan has the thing sitting on the current dome site and taking up surrounding parking lots.
here is the link to their map: Downtown East Stadium Images
2012-2013 still MetroDome;2014-2015 @ TCF stadium(open stadium) ; 2016 1st scheduled game
