The Minnesota Senate has approved a financing plan for a new Vikings stadium

Why? If the Vikings want a new stadium, let the Vikings pay for a new stadium.

But wait, some may say. A stadium is good for the local economy. It brings jobs and money to the area.

Well, a Pizza Hut would the exact same thing in my area. Should my state therefore be building pizzerias for the Pizza Hut corporation?

so I guess the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome won’t be around to serve as the new capitol for a post-apocalyptic United States after all...

Do the Feds build NASCAR tracks anywhere? I think NASCAR has more fans than NFL football does. Just curious.

'the state will now pay $348 million'

Anybody know if they are gonna steal[eminent domain] any of the proposed land? I know some of the land is owned by the Star Tribune.

I’ll never understand why taxpayers are put on the hook to finance private enterprise.

If they indeed to finance the stadium, do they not also have a right to a measurable percent of the profits (in addition to the normal scraps sports gods choose to throw back to the state)?

If the team is so d*mned wanted, then the “owners” should be able to pay all costs.

So we'll see ads about this during the upcoming presidential campaigns, right? About how Obama is against this outright subsidy to millionaires? How this is a subsidy of more than $221,000 per ‘job’ which are minimum wage temporary positions?

How about the deep impact it'll have to the local economy which does better with the old stadium, as there's less bells and whistles there to encourage spending, which means more money available to spend elsewhere before and after the game?

Ahh, yes, I can see it now. ‘Put a stop to the corrupt greed of millionaires’ will say the text, as Obama takes a striking pose against welfare for millionaires..

or crickets.. Crickets chirping seem to be just about as likely.

couldn’t they just takeover Camp Snoopy, add a retractable roof build an intimate stadium and then ya could shop eat and drink ‘til ya drop before and after games.. just askin’ :-]

I am proud to say I sat in a game in the snow at the ol’ Met. My older brother, since deceased and a 101st Screaming Eagle, took me as a kid. The Vikes won. Purple People Eaters .. now they eat quiche and drink wine..

A domed stadium, I presume? Can’t have the girls playing in the cold. They might get, well, cold or something.

If the Vikings wanted to win, instead of maximizing profits, they would play outdoors, which would work to thei advantage at playoff time (assuming they are home team).

What is wrong with the old stadium(s)?

LostAngeles has the Coliseum and the Rose Bowl, but somehow modern wisdom concludes the attendees of today need something else.

Why not lower the ticket prices, lower parking, lower the players salaries, and play ball?

If fans don’t want to attend the games, maybe it is the neighborhood, not the stadium?

Taxpayers should never be on the hook to pay for private enterprise. This is nothing but corporate welfare that supports millionaire players and billionaire owners.

The cave was both inevitable and predictable. Unfortunately, it occurred with both houses of the Legislature controlled by Republicans, some of whom need to be reminded why they were elected.

There are a number of citizens of our fair state who have now forfeited their right to complain about infrastructure, education, and above all, taxes.

Within the last five years the taxpayers have been raided for funds for a University of Minnesota football stadium (Godawful team), the Twins (worst team in baseball) and now the Vikings (ne’er-do-wells).

Far too many idiots here who claim conservatism but evaporate when it’s time to show colors.
