NEW YORK -- A New York City health department inspector bizarrely slapped a Brooklyn bagel shop with $1,650 in fines -- because sesame and poppy seeds fell to the floor while the bagels were being made during working hours.
The owner of B&B Empire Bagel Cafe -- who appealed the violations and lost at two separate hearings -- said the inspectors must have holes in their heads.

After reading the New Adkins Diet book, I was surprised to find out so many things we had been told about nutrition were wrong. Adkins actually states that we may not be eating enough salt and advises to eat some soy sauce or bouillon soup each day. I though salt was eeevil. And don’t get me started on cholesterol. Next we will find out that cigarettes are actually good for you.

From “Sleeper” (Woody Allen) 1973
Dr. Melik: This morning for breakfast he requested something called “wheat germ, organic honey and tiger’s milk.”
Dr. Aragon: [chuckling] Oh, yes. Those are the charmed substances that some years ago were thought to contain life-preserving properties.
Dr. Melik: You mean there was no deep fat? No steak or cream pies or... hot fudge?
Dr. Aragon: Those were thought to be unhealthy... precisely the opposite of what we now know to be true.
Dr. Melik: Incredible.

Dr. Orva: Here, smoke this. And, be sure you get the smoke deep down into your lungs.
Miles Monroe: I don’t smoke.
Dr. Orva: It’s tobacco. It’s one of the healthiest things for your body.

Yeah - and everyone thinks the inspection thing is a racket. Although I did read where the inspector did cut the shopkeeper a break, and directed him to his cousin Tony’s industrial supply discount store.
Probably the only truly funny movie Allen made.
This bagel shop owner didn’t pay his honorarium from the student fund...
Mr. Gormakh, if you want to feel what true US Socialism is like I’d suggest you move your bagel shop to Los Angeles.
On the other hand, if you want to feel what true US capitalism is like I’d suggest you move your bagel shop to South Carolina or Texas.
RE: Id suggest you move your bagel shop to South Carolina or Texas.
How’s the local palette down south? Do people like eating bagels over there?

Give it a try on anything.. you’ll be glad you did.....sorry for straying here ...
I want that America back.
I want that America back.
Compare that to OWS
You know I want as many people as possible to see what happens when a liberal who poses as a Republican takes power, and your post is one of the few that seems to acknowledge that. For some reason on Freep, I can’t get people to believe that the people who live here in New York city are actually living under Despotism! They either do not believe it or do not care.
So let me show you some more...
Here is what the Despot is doing to the New York city cops. He is literally threatening them to act as mafiosa brown shirts or they lose their vacation...

Now the common liberal may say: “Oh Bloomberg is just doing that because the city is broke and needs money”
But it’s all BS. What he is using that money for, is for his fanatical obsession to change NYC green. He is literally spending 100s of millions of dollars to split streets in half, one half for bicycles and one half for cars. Eventually he said he intends to ban all cars running on gas.
Plus he is on this psychotic landscaping exterior decorating hobby where he is planting trees and bushes any place he can. But he needs money, so now he is using Nazi tactics to shake down landlords, cops, taxi drivers, all to supply money for his fanaticism. A friend of mine got FORTY SEVEN tickets in ONE month for doing nothing more than trying to deliver computer products his company is trying to sell. He says because of that, it will most likely destroy the comapany because they can’t afford the fines and lawyer fees.
Now who still wants to vote for Romney? Rich liberal from Assachussets? That’s Bloomberg. Made pretend he was a Conservative Republican? That’s Bloomberg. Is there something worse than Obama? Yes there is, it’s called a fraud named Romney. Remember: Obama didn’t invent Obamacare. Romney did. Like my Grandmother always told me: Never trust any politician coming out of Assachussets and she was 101 years old when she died and spot on about that statement. NOTHING good has EVER come out of Assachussets when it comes to politics, she had plenty of experience. I won’t vote for Obama but I’ll be damned if I vote for Romney as well. If Obama wins a 2nd term, so be it. It won’t be any worse than Romney winning and that’s the Gods honest truth. He is a fkin LIAR and I bet Ann Coulter $10,000 bucks that Romney WILL NOT repeal Obamacare if he is elected! Easiest 10k I will ever make.
I agree...I hate Romney
That being said, I have ordered an industrial strength clothes pin to clamp on my nose when I vote against zer0bama’s regime in November
As bad as Romney is, he does not hold a candle to the Marxist suckyness that is Hussein
Someone is getting the benefit of this official service.
I wonder what it costs to sic inspectors on a bagel shop?
I also wonder what the real price is when they have to explain the messes they made to the highest authority of all.
Bet they think it wasn't worth the price they'll be made to pay.
Who will regulate the regulators?
We have become extraordinarily lackadaisical and careless about our Constitution, legal system, society, finances and freedom.
We have ignored each of the warning signs we've passed and in turn, the warning signs have now become lighted billboards with flashing and scrolling warnings.
When reality finally has had enough of our ignoring it and it's many warnings, we're going to be hit upside the head so hard it might take our head clean off.
It's starting to look inevitable, so do we have a year or less before that happens? (Check out some of the treaties obama probably will sign and what will happen as a result.)
Between the enormous .40 cal ammo buy by Homeland Security and obama's very troubling Executive order update, this could be a very wild ride.
I wonder how the butcher shop I worked at when I was a kid would have fared today.
The sawdust on the floor got changed once a week (sometimes two weeks) along with all the pieces of fat, gristle and bone that the daily raking didn’t remove.
I live in Aiken County, SC. In Aiken, the county seat, there are two Dunkin Doughnut shops, an Atlanta Bread Co store and two stand-alone bagel shops. So, yes, I guess people around here love bagels.
I'm especially partial to the asiago cheese bagels at Atlanta Bread. Delish!
