Obama Campaign Blasts Mitt Romney for Initial Silence After Supporter Says President...'Treason’

...After Supporter Says President ‘Should be tried for treason’

The Obama campaign slammed Mitt Romney Monday for not confronting a supporter who said during a town hall event in Cleveland that the president “should be tried for treason.”

“We have a president right now that is operating outside the structure of our Constitution,” a woman said during a question-and-answer session. “And I want to know — yeah, I do agree he should be tried for treason — but I want to know what you would be able to do to restore balance between the three branches of government and what you are going to be able to do to restore our Constitution in this country.”

Romney, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, ignored the treason comment and answered her question.

“Well, as I’m sure you do, I happen to believe the Constitution was not just brilliant but probably inspired,” he said. “I happen to believe the same thing about the Declaration of Independence. I would respect the different branches of government if I am fortunate enough to become president.”

“Time after time in this campaign, Mitt Romney has had the opportunity to show that he has the fortitude to stand up to hateful and over-the-line rhetoric and time after time, he has failed to do so,” campaign spokeswoman Lis Smith said in a statement. “If this is the ‘leadership’ he has shown on the campaign trail, what can the American people expect of him as commander-in-chief?”

Romney repeated his position shortly after the event during an interview on CNN but rejected the notion that he had a responsibility to take on the audience member.

“I don’t correct all of the questions that get asked of me.” Romney said.

Sorry, wasn’t trying to trick anyone. I just wish repubs would just have this intuition to say these kinds of things when the man is acting like the democrat proxies that they are.

I wasn’t complaining, I was just surprised at how happy I was to hear Rodney say something worth saying. The fact that he didn’t actually say it is not your fault.

They didn’t have to remind him. When he was asked if he agreed with the woman, Willard said “Of course not.”

The quisling is staying true to form.

Romney's been waiting for a chance at the presidency his whole like. He will not be a pu$$y like McCain.

I agree. Romney plays hardball, and skillfully. Hardball in using $$$ in ads to smear Newt, hardball in supressing Sarah Palin. Arrogant, dismissive, and ruthless, aspiring for this as you say, all his life. He's even got his own racist card to play -- "hate" him, and you hate all Mormons. Secularists gotta love that little dig at the Republican template of religious bigot.

Romney has been an instrument of advancing five of the fundamental issues I've been voting Republican to oppose. And "He will not be a pu$$y like McCain."

Beware.

I agree. Romney plays hardball, and skillfully. Hardball, or example, in using $$$ in negative ads to avalanche Newt, hardball in supressing Sarah Palin behind the scenes. Arrogant, dismissive, and ruthless, aspiring for this as you say, all his life. He's even got his own racist card to play -- "hate" him, and you hate all Mormons. Secularists gotta love that little offense dig at the Republican template of religious bigotry.

Romney has been an instrument of advancing five of the fundamental liberal concepts I've been voting Republican to oppose: state-run health care, forced open-homosexuality acceptance everywhere from schools to the military, on-demand abortion (an evil taxpayers are forced to subsidize), activist liberal judges in appointments, and buying wholesale into the global warming cap-and-trade ecotyranny. When you vote for Romney, that is who you are voting for.

And "He will not be a pu$$y like McCain."

Beware.

Treason is such a harsh word and its consequences are nasty. Flexibility sounds much nicer. Don’t you agree?

I am sitting here reading all these comments... WHERE are our LEADERS? Where are the posterity of the MEN who led this great nation? My goodness! Where are the MEN?! It seems all we have in this country are whiny, you-owe-me-because-it’s-my-turn, no cojones-seekers of fame and fortune. WHERE ARE OUR LEADERS?

This is a sign that Obama is getting desperate.

Half-full halls for big announcements will do that to you.

How is it hateful to tell the truth? Obama has trampled on the Constitution his healthcare law is just one example, but to me the most treasonous of all is the Democrat bribary of the people by promising them benefits and entitlements in exchange for their votes.

WHERE ARE OUR LEADERS?

Not in the conservative punditry, that's for sure.

How I long, how I yearn, how I would love to hear, any major male conservative talk show host, or a major column writer of either sex, acknowledge the dog crap in the room: Romney stinks to high heaven. The bastard's whole political record -- and you can look it up -- is of a guy who worked to advance all the main things I've been loyally, faithfully, dogmatically voting Republican all these decades to OPPOSE. Romney stinks like a steaming pile and clearly a vote for him is a bad idea.

Pure common sense -- but nary a "leader" in the punditry to kick the dog crap out of the room. Nope. The "official" conservative strategy: ABO.

Which can only happen because sensible people who know Romney stinks, are being bullied and terrorized into ignoring their noses.

The strategy is solely structured to avoid confronting Obama. Romney is a statist, and he has governed as a liberal. But with ABO, that doesn't matter.

Not yet, anyway. That's another can to kick down the road while we focus on kicking Obama down the road because -- let's all hear it in unison! -- "The country can't survive another four years of Obama!" A narcissist has not only convinced himself of his omnipotence, he's convinced a lot of conservatives and limited government Republicans, as well.

Interesting times. And for me, lack of voice in the punditry. Rush and Levin have let me down.

Do I understand this correctly? Romney is supposed to comment on, and apologize for, what his supporters say, but Obama himself can say whatever he wants about his opponent or his predecessor in office without apology?

How is it hateful to tell the truth?

To tell the truth is to purposefully hurt somebody. Just saying it could hurt anybody, any random person...

You wouldn't want to hurt someone, would you? That would be hateful. If you do, we'll slander you, we'll sue you, throw you in prison, or maybe kill you.

Be smart, and don't tell the truth.

Obama is trying to determine just how truthful and tough Romney will get in this fight. Will Romney fight back...or simply roll over like McCain?

He is praying to Allah that Romney will follow in the mold of most Republicans and cower. Let's hope NOT.

Possibly an Obama plant, there to ask a wild question and hope the charge won’t get challenged. It wasn’t challenged, and Obama scored.
