Could the U.S. give up Mount Rushmore? Iconic site is on list of 'sacred land' UN says

A UN human official is urging the U.S. to turn over control of lands considered to be sacred to Native Americans, including the site of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial.

James Anaya, the UN special rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples, unveiled his recommendations in Geneva on Friday after completing a 12-day visit to the U.S. where he met with representatives of indigenous peoples in six states.

The fact-finder also had a chance to meet members of the Obama administration and briefed the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, but no member of Congress agreed to meet with him.

For over a century, he said, the government had seized lands and resources from Native Americans, removed children from their families and communities, caused the loss of languages, broke treaties with tribes and oppressed the indigenous peoples on the grounds of racial discrimination.

Mount Rushmore, a popular tourist attraction, is located in the Black Hills, which the Sioux tribes consider to be sacred and have territorial claims to based on an 1868 treaty.

Shortly after that treaty was signed, gold was discovered in the region, and the U.S. Congress eventually passed a law taking over the land.

'I'm talking about restoring to indigenous peoples what obviously they're entitled to and they have a legitimate claim to in a way that is not divisive but restorative,' Mr Anaya said.

I have driven around the Pine Ridge Reservation (did a lot of prairie dog shooting there!) and the people do live in mobile homes and dilapitated houses.

However, every public school was shiny, new and modern in every respect!

So, we are providing a “way out” to these people.....if they want to take it.

Despite its phony facade of representing "world peace" the UN is actually a steaming pile of world community "social justice" promoters, fascists, agitators and pimps.

Kinda like Obama's former "job" working the Chicago streets for "social justice" for the commune, er....the community....only on a larger scale.

Arrogant third-world flotsam and jetsam creeps dominate the UN. All the while these socialist bullies are here in NYC living gloriously like capitalist princes on OUR dime......while pretty soon all we lucky citizens of the New World Order will be eating canned Bo.

As soon as Mexico gives itself back to the Incas and Mayans...Perhaps we should also hold out for the Roman Empire to be restored.

The ones I think are acting as domestic enemies are the local NGOs and environmental groups. Where I live they are running rampant. They lure people in with nice sounding projects like bike paths or beach clean up.

Some of them are unsuspecting because they are acting on emotion. But, many of them are criminals in my mind. They get grants for things like planting trees and then they go to the forestry dept and get free trees and talk the school into sending out a herd of kids to do the work and get their picture in the paper while they pocket the money or use it to pay their sleazy lawyers to sue the rest of us for the use of our own property.

***...will be eating canned Bo...***

Yewwww {:-( Why do we continue to support this horror? Let them move to Europe... or Great Zimbabwe or wherever. ...and then there's VP Biteme advocating for a world [UN] tax: treason!!!

Did anyone catch who it was this past week that argued for unilateral disarmament on the part of the US? ...saying that then Iran would give up their nuclear program happily, the world will come to love us... Yikes!!

Have these people never read history? Or are they just incapable of learning from it?

From the 2010 Republican Party of Texas Platform, page 29:

“We urge Congress to evict the United Nations from the United States and eliminate any further participation.”

Yes. We do..........

And we are NOT changing our minds today!

Hey, do you always take the fun out of all parties?

That is usually what happens but it is not necessarily my intent.

Ironically an even larger mountain carving honoring Lakota Chief Crazy Horse is being carved just a few miles away from Mt. Rushmore on private land and without government funding. Would the UN propose to take that away too? Link to Crazy Horse Monument site.

I first read about Korczak Ziolkowski's monument to Crazy Horse in Popular Science, June 1964 when I was 13. We used to take family trips to Idaho from NY every couple years to visit relatives and always drove by Mt. Rushmore and Devil's Tower. I got Dad to drive by the newly emerging Crazy Horse monument the summer after reading this article and have gone by every 10 or 15 years since. I haven't seen it in maybe 15 or so now...how's progress?

Why do I suspect the UN would want to blow up a monument to four dead white supremacists (the same way the Taliban blew up the two 2,000 year Bamiyan Buddhas) and preserve the monument to the noble savage?

self ping ... Cap7 is a gold mine:

there are a few references to UN Agenda 21 on this thread. Click on the link on Post 11 to get an idea what they’re up to.

Few realize also that federal regulations on the American fishing industry now conform to Agenda 21. This has devastated the industry since about 1996. All around the coast fishermen are going out of business because of this.

In New England, the Gov. of Mass. declared an Economic Disaster because of it. Then in the SE they were actually going to close the ocean for up to 35 yrs.

We are now importing 85% of seafood consumed from VietNam, China, ect
