Of course another massive Tea Party Rally in DC in the September/October time frame would help to get that point across.

A battle is lost but the war goes on. The tide is turning and will continue to do so.

Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves that if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, 'This was their finest hour.'

Thank you for the truce. It broke my heart to see all the bickering tearing us all apart. We should have one goal right now and that is ridding us of Obama and taking back congress with true conservatives!

With this I am a new $10.00 a month donor! Thanks again for all you do and I know it took a lot on your part to call this truce and for those of us felt rejected by FR for our ABO stance can call now this place home again.

My heart is singing!

even though he's recently claimed a complete reversal in political beliefs and no longer despises pro-life conservatives or the time of Reagan-Bush, I still don't trust him.

I don't trust him, either. There is enough in his background to raise real concerns. However, Romney has at least been campaigning largely as a conservative. He has said repeatedly during this campaign that he opposes Obamacare, abortion, and same-sex marriage. And unless he changes his positions on these issues between now and election day, or puts an avowed pro-abort on ticket, I will most likely vote for him.

The alternative is Obama, and I know what to expect from Obama. With Romney, there is at least a chance--especially with a Congress much more conservative than the Massachusetts legislature--that he will govern in a significantly more conservative direction.

conservative pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-borders, pro-constitution, pro-small government, pro-defense, pro-liberty. . . .

That is my philosophy too, as it is for all the good conservatives who have been around here for a while. I think we all agree on philosophy; it is on strategy where we have some differences. And this has led to some good, longtime, conservative FReepers getting zotted or being reluctant to express themelves freely.

Therefore I hereby propose a general truce among our conservative forces!!

OK, but what does this "truce" mean? What will be different from the last few months? For example, will those longtime FReepers who were banned be able to come back? Will their posting privileges be restored? I'm not talking about obvious DU-type trolls, disruptors. I'm talking about people who got the zot but whose posting history and sign-up date makes it clear they were not trolls. Is there a way of un-zotting them or letting them know they can come back now? I think it would help the morale around here.

Thanks for allowing a frank discussion of these things.

I've seen Massachusetts,up close and personal, under Romney *and* his successor "Coupe Deval" Patrick (Mass residents know where the nickname "Coupe Deval" came from).Coupe Deval,BTW,is Osama Obama's lifelong pal from their Chicago street thug days together.

Under Romney Massachusetts was no paradise..far from it.I mean how can you have paradise in a state which has a legislature that's 90% Rat? How can you have a paradise in a state where Barney Frank is the "centrist".But I can assure you all that, while no paradise under Romney,Massachusetts was a far better place under him than it is under Coupe Deval.Far,far, far,FAR better.Better by a factor of 10.

Romney will very probably not be a *great* President. He probably won't even be a particularly *good* President. But as was the case in '92 only one of *two* people will be President next January. In 1993 those two individuals were Bush and Billy Bob.Next January it will either be Romney or the current Community Organizer-In-Chief.The last time a third party candidate got a *single* Electoral Vote was 1972.My guess is that more than a few here weren't even *alive* in 1972.

I'm voting for the lesser of the two evils that will be receiving Electoral Votes this December. Not with any joy in my heart,to be sure. The fight for the soul of the Republican Party can go on at any time *except* between the time that a Presidential nominee is determined (which appears to have occurred with *both* parties) and the moment that the last polls close on election day.Any other attitude today, given the breathtaking danger that an unrestrained Osama Obama represents to this nation in a second term,is literally national suicide.

I won’t vote straight R but I will vote straight Conservative. Mittens isn’t getting my vote.
I don’t think he has a snowball’s chance in hell anyway. The fix is in. Way to go, pubs!

The Romneybot sellouts will not hear another peep from me Jim, they will get their "reward" one day anyway in monetary loss, freedom loss and loss of what is left of their dignity.

Let the head of the snake think it has a chance to live, while we go for the soft underbelly, stay in it for the long haul...wear them out locally with contested races and then go in for the finish! Go TEA party!

Well said and much needed.

But we must recognize that we are right back where we were four years ago post McCain and pre Palin.

FR can't be "The Tea Party" but this would be the right time to open, and broadcast, a discussion on what the tea party movement did right, did wrong, and needs to change.

Otherwise 2016 could be truly dismal.

Thank you for your wonderful message.

You remind me of a certain United States Senator (circa 1820), who despite massive criticism from his political adversaries of the time and modern activist historians who would misrepresent his correct interpretation of our founding laws, waged a lengthy political battle for Constitutional law, protection of individual rights, and the God given rights and liberties that so many have defended since the founding.

Well spoken, Sir.

I put my faith in the Lord that Romney is our nominee for a reason.......just as Obama was elected as part of His plan.

Ours is not to question, but to continue to strive for perfection.

Dunkirk - Normandy. Valley Forge - Yorktown. Many battles in between, but the Good Guys never gave up.

I firmly believe that if Obama is reelected(which I believe he will), conservative websites will be targeted for shut down with extreme prejudice.

I believe we should prepare for life after FR.

This is not a slam on Mr Robinson’s fantastic website which many of us try to monetarily support, but the ruthlessness of the left which will most surely bare it’s fangs if/when Obama is reelected.

It might be a good time to start thinking outside the box on how conservatives can stay in contact while continuing the fight.

Very Dark clouds on the horizon..

Still no vote for Romney here, Jim. I’m accountable to God for my vote and I can’t vote for an abortionist (or any of the other affronts to Christianity we all know Romney supports). I also can’t support the fiscal liberal that Romney is.

However, it’s good that we at least attempt to get along. The name-calling needs to stop. I will vote for the best conservative I can find, at every spot on my ballot. To me, that’s what FR is all about — to advance the conservative movement.

There are great people on this website whom I respect quite a bit. I’m going to differ with them from time to time but adults can do that and still get along. It’s the petty name-callers who need to be on notice.

"But I will not act on my prior promises that I would actively campaign against him if he wins the nomination... To that end I propose a TRUCE among our conservative forces during the remainder of this election cycle."

We need to get as many Conservative Senators elected this November as possible, and we need to be ready to primary Romney next time around if he wins in November and turns out to be as bad as feared.

Too many Conservatives sat on their hands when Bush went off the rails, fearful of criticizing him because he was a Republican- that can't happen this time. We should make it clear the alternative to a bad Republican president in 2016 is not a Democrat... but a solid Conservative.

Jim,

Please give some consideration to Virgil Goode of the Constitution Party. For 2012, he is the conservative left standing. There is still a plethora of down-ticket races featuring good, conservative Republicans who deserve our support.

As for the Presidential ticket... yes, this round is lost to the GOP-e/Dem axis, BUT.. a strong statement could be made to the GOP-e schlubs the conservative movement has other options.

Jim - good post. But unlike you, I will hold my nose and vote for Ronmey this fall if he’s the one with the R beside his name, for one reason, and one reason only. And it goes to one of the points you made about why Romeny is no conservative: appointing liberal judges.

I can live with, and I think the nation can survive with the centrist to somewhat liberal judges that Romney would likely appoint (tho’ I would much rather be pleasently surprised.) I know our nation won’t survive four more years of the Marxist appointments that Obimbo has made.

Keep the House, take the Senate and may the conservatives hold Ronmey’s feet to the fire.
