For months, the Obama administration has told American voters that the nation had turned the corner on a stagnant recovery. Job creation picked up in December, January, and February, averaging a decent if unspectacular 217,000 jobs added monthly during that period.
It seemed as though the economy would provide the White House with momentum heading into a tough election fight -- not just for the White House but also for the Senate where Democrats have to defend 23 of the 33 seats up for election this year. Evidence of success from Barack Obamas economic policies might keep both in Democratic hands, especially as voters start taking the election seriously this summer.
A month ago, the March numbers dashed those hopes. Job creation slowed significantly to 120,000, and a few weeks later, the GDP report for the first quarter provided some explanation. Growth slowed from a pedestrian 3.0 percent in the fourth quarter of 2011 to a stagnation-level 2.2 percent. Still, the White House suggested that this was merely a hiccup in an overall improvement for job creation and economic growth. One month does not a trend make, after all. . .

My company was set to hire our seasonal work crew of laborers, we are holding back due to a near standstill of new construction orders.
Its just not there, even the usual seasonal contractors that we have relied upon to call us for concrete have disappeared, gone as not around anymore.
We are down to two employees and I am one of them. Running on a reduced hour workweek, no OT, I still have work but only because I have multiple skills.
For Wasilla Alaska its almost a ghost town, I bet no tourists appear this summer.
Not surprised. One of the results of the Obama economy.
Small numbers.
I have a fallback plan of a sorts, luckily I am in Alaska and I bought a high end gold detector this spring so if my job peters out at the very least I have the tool to possibly find myself some local gold nuggets. And I do know where within a reasonable distance from home, nothing like the gold rush shows.
At $60 a gram or more as nuggets are sometimes worth more by their size or shape I could scratch out some income.
Right now, with people getting ready for the summer, it may not matter, but come September that could very well change.
Lots of gold up in Alaska.
Incumbency does not have the power it once had. Also if the Supremes strike down the Obamacare law, it will weaken Obama even more.
There is but if you are not in Alaska all you see is those reality shows thinking its only in certain areas like Nome.
I could find trace even in my back yard if I was patient enough. And we always have new trace in the rivers right after the spring thaw from upstream placers, of which I know an area or two that I will target.
This is one guy who goes to a Lutheran church that will never vote for the wun.
Sadly there are probably a fair amount of leftists in the congregation that will.
You forgot dead people, felons, and illegal aliens, three major Dem constituencies!
Yeah, the numbers look bad now, but just wait till the September and October numbers they have planned are released.
There will be dancing in the streets, unicorns will fly through the heavens, and showers of Skittles and hundred dollar bills will rain from the sky.
Long live the King of Amerika!
In your dreams.
Amen to ABO!
It is still early yet and plus also, people will not say the truth for fear of being called “racists”.
Most polls are. But even allowing for error, it still is disconcerting. I mean what else does Obi have to do to lose the Black and Jewish vote? It seems to be set in concrete.
The sad reality is that, more folks are going to like, fearful of the “racist” tag. But when they do in the voting booth in privacy is a whole different ball game.
‘rats don’t lose close elections, not since 2000, especially.
I want to send Scott a few dollars but then he’ll be jinxed.
