Al Sharpton, Trayvon Martin family urge peace on 20th anniversary of L.A. race riots
To mark the 2oth anniversary of the deadly riots that engulfed Los Angeles following the 1992 Rodney King verdict, civil rights activist Al Sharpton and Trayvon Martin's parents are urging peace at events. Sharpton spoke to Yahoo News before he and Martin's family addressed a church on Thursday night.

"I think even though people are angry and as concerned as I am, we don't feel like we have no options," he says. "Unlike [with] Rodney King, there's defined leadership in Trayvon Martin's case who have said from the beginning we cannot have violence."
-snip-
Sharpton says he has no idea whether Zimmerman was prejudiced against Martin because of his race

I think you underestimate the preparedness of the non-urban denizen. Small towns, rural areas are certainly not unaccustomed to protecting themselves. The county I live in has more guns than Obama’s got food stamps.

Had an
interesting column from Clinton buttboy Gene Lyons today.Lyons has always done the DNC's bidding. In this column, he tossed Sharpton under the bus and put his own form of reasonable doubt into the liberal attacks on Zimmerman. I think the DNC is looking at the polling on this case and not liking what they see.

Sue them Zimmerman. Sue Sharpton. Jackson, the Black Panthers, NBC, ABC, CBS. Sue them all! Sue until the laws of remorse have been restored.
Sue Sharpton, Jackson, Panthers, NBC, the New York Times, and ABC.
Standing on the sidelines pushing matches and gasoline on lowlifes to burn down our cities is NOT the same as being innocent. And that 'don't throw me in that briar patch" is crap - the threat of violence is the one card - race hucksters have. Take away 'cities will burn - white men will die' - and they've got nothing.
Poverty pimps and their big bully brothers in the MSM must be held accountable.
Zimmermen should sue them. Cities that burn should to sue them. Citizens forced to hide in their homes should sue them...

Neither do we. Any Republican could have won in 1968. We put Nixon in office and he gave us the EPA and price controls. AWESOME POINTS! Just stunning. I salute you.

Small towns, rural areas are certainly not unaccustomed to protecting themselves.
Note that i specifically mentioned suburban, not rural. In the rural areas the mobs wouldn't last five minutes. In the inner city they will be unchallenged. It is in the yuppy suburbs that the battle will be fought. And trying to convince my neighbors of that fact has convinced me that the majority are simply not ready for what is going to fall on them. I live there, I know.
These are the people who not only won't put in their own gardens, or make any preparation to feed themselves in an emergency, but will call the village on you if your garden is visible from the street. We had an extended power outage last year and there were only about a dozen houses in our subdivision that had generators. And two of those hadn't been stored properly and wouldn't start.
At a recent block party the subject of firearms came up. A little under half owned them. Another quarter were thinking it might be a good idea to get one. The final quarter were in whining histrionics about the idea of bringing firearms into their neighborhood. However of those that had firearms most were pistols. Fine for self and home defense, not sufficient for stopping a rampaging mob. It is illegal to own an assault rifle in Illinois so it doesn't get talked about in public. But I suspect that there may be at least a few in the subdivision. There will also be a few deer rifles to supplement those.
You might be able to mount a defense with the weapons available. But then you run into the biggest problem, attitude. The simple fact is that the people in my neighborhood I would most want around in a total SHTF situation are the ones I also know have bugout locations already set up. I do. It is not that we won't stand. It is just that Cook county Illinois is not where I would choose to make a last stand.

Gee, Al, guess you changed your mind after finding out Z has black ancestors, was raised with blacks and oh my, had blacks eating at his very racially mixed dinner table. Of course, once a bounty has been placed on someone’s head it's hard to get it taken off so don't think this little speech will exonerate you from stirring up trouble.

Depends on the suburbs you are referencing. Most I have lived in the majority are well armed with not only handguns and rifles, but possess what the MSM would label “assault weapons”.
In my current suburb in California, the demographics would closely mirror your example, and I would be one of those who would bug out to a more defensible position if it came down to it, but even in my current situation it would take a significant amount of firepower to take me out.
Those suburbanites who aren’t prepared only have themselves to blame and if they survive they will learn a valuable lesson.

Down in SFL, hurricanes have made us have extremely durable window coverings. Seems like an advantage sometimes, thinking of having all that available.

“It is illegal to own an assault rifle in Illinois”
Umm...that’s news to me! Granted, I think it’s illegal to possess an “assault rifle” in Cook County, but I suspect that’s one of the most ignored laws on the books. I see AKs, ARs, FALs etc. for sale all the time at Illinois shows.
“so it doesn’t get talked about in public.”
I have a simple rule: unless I’m with people I trust and consider “safe”, I don’t tell people that I own firearms. The long case I’m carrying over my shoulder out to the car is “optical equipment I’m working on for a friend”.

Most suburbanites are not armed. Don't bet on that my friend. In my little neighborhood we can whistle up a squad of 12 very heavily armed people in about ten minutes. And the cops can only suppress what they know about. Freepmail me if you'd like details on how we did it.

If the riots were happening on their own, you’d be right. But this comes right after Obambi gave himself the right to declare martial law during peacetime. I really think that’s the point of these riots, it’s an excuse to declare martial law and seize power by force, nationwide.
