Former (NY) Sen. Kruger sentenced to 7 years for taking $500k in bribes (but keeps his pension)

Disgraced ex-Brooklyn state Sen. Carl Kruger was sentenced today to 7 years in prison for receiving $500,000 in bribes -- much of which he funneled to his live-in gynecologist boyfriend.

Kruger’s sentencing in Manhattan federal court by Judge Jed Rakoff came before the scheduled sentencing today of his lover, Dr. Michael Turano, 50 for conspiring in the same bribery scheme.

In the "pay-to-play" scheme, the then-senator directed illicit payments from representatives of the real-estate, hospital, supermarket and beverage industries to shell companies set up by Turano.

In return, Kruger, 63, sponsored legislation beneficial to to the bribe-payers, tried to steer millions of dollars in pork-barrel funds to, and even once wrote a favorable letter to a Buffalo federal judge.

The ill-gotten cash allowed Kruger and Turano to revel in a lavish lifestyle that included a Bentley sedan and a gaudy $1.8 million Mill Basin mansion where the couple resided with Turano's brother mother, Dorothy -- a district manager at Brooklyn Community Board 18 who for years acted as Kruger's beard for his secret love affair with her doctor son.

"My actions were in violation of the law, and I knew that they were wrong," Kruger said when he pleaded guilty. "I accept responsibility for my actions and am truly sorry for my conduct."

Today, Kruger's lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, told Rakoff, "Whatever sentence you impose, that's a consecutive sentence: He's never going to be able to work in public service, the one thing he knows how to do."

Kruger will retain his state Senate pension of about $60,000 annually because New York's Constitutions prohibits cutting benefits to people who have paid into the retirement system.

Two things:
Nowhere in the article does it say what party he belongs to, so I will have to guess Democrat.
He has a live-in gay lover who is a GYNOCOLOGIST??? I would have thought PROCTOLOGIST.

If party affiliation is not mentioned, it is certain that it is a democrat.

Not just once, but always.

He's a "D"! "D" for Degenerate. It's so easy to vote nowadays. just look for anyone with a "D" after his name and vote for the other guy!

Funny that they would've left that "D" thing out of the title and articles!

This is an example of why our government is not a “rule of law” government any more.

It’s a thugocracy.

Aren’t there laws making it being illegal to profit from a crime? Or to keep ill-gotten gain acquired during the commision of a crime?

Hmmm...no mention of party affiliation....

When it's bad news - crime - bribery - and there's no mention of party affiliation - it means he's a democrat.

Kruger is a Democrat.
