A bill currently making its way through the Oklahoma state legislature would allow citizens of the state to openly carry loaded handguns without a permit. Only six states and the District of Columbia expressly prohibit this practice, with the remaining states either specifically allowing open carry or having no law on the books prohibiting it. In recent years, the practice of openly carrying a gun has grown in popularity, as legislation that would permit it has been introduced in places like Texas, South Carolina, and Arkansassome of the last states that have held out against it.
Proponents of open carry laws point to the Second Amendment as their justification, as open carry has never been ruled out of the Constitution in any court, and they argue that the practice is technically legal in every state that does not specifically prohibit it. They claim that weapons carried in plain sight act as a deterrent to would-be attackers and criminals, and they hold that those with malicious intent almost always conceal their weaponsa practice that is much more widely accepted.
Opponents of open carry say that relaxing attitudes toward publicly displayed guns would naturally lead to more violence and misuse of firearms. They claim that the Second Amendment does not justify open carry, and they hold that more guns out in the open will lead to more intimidation and less safety.

Should People Be Allowed to Carry Guns Openly?

Why not? They do carry guns openly without any permitting process in Vermont, one of the most socialist states in the Union, and there are no daily shoot outs,
as direly predicted by the left and their whining
progessive commie supporters.
In fact Vermont crimes of personal violence, car jackings, and burglary of occupied homes are almost non existent compared to other states, relatively speaking.
Yes.

No, we shoudl all passively go limp and allow people to bash our heads in agaisnt a sidewalk- after all, we wouldn’t want to upset the thugs, now would we?
One of the best reasons is so a person will not be prosecuted for inadvertently letting their concealed weapon to be seen.
If you were a criminal about to snatch a purse, carjack someone or rob a quickie store and noticed law abiding citizens around you sporting their hoglegs....would ya take the chance?
How bout mom's or dad's walking their children to the bus stop with their legally displayed weapons holstered to their waist....would’ya try to snatch a kid?
What if you were in a gang of thugs about to pummel some innocent white guy to smithereens with bricks, chairs and golf clubs if you'd looked over to see bystanders carrying smoke wagons eyeballin ya....would ya?
All Americans who aren’t currently incarcerated should be allowed to carry firearms.
Residents of Idaho may carry a firearm openly, but very rarely do so unless engaged in hunting ungulates, coyotes, wolves, bears, and the like. A permit is required to carry a weapon concealed.
People are openly gay, why can’t they be openly armed?
This isn't rocket surgery. Open, concealed. Long gun or pocket pistol. Broad sword or a Howitzer...
SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.
Anyone trying to restrict that Right under the guise of "public safety", "reasonable regulations", or some other fictitious boogeyman are taking away your freedom. Not just yours, but mine to.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I've completely had it with those who are willing to accept their slave chains and demand that we do the same.
Although it is perfectly legal, I’d carry a 12 ga. shotgun with me everywhere I went, but I know that the LEOs would harass me to without mercy, so I don’t.

Absolutely.
Haven't heard that one before. Now, rocket science and brain surgery...well that I have heard before. :-)
Of course. The big issue for me is concealed-carry without a permit. That’s the way it should be everywhere.

I love it! It's perfect. :)
allow???
The article went off the tracks at that point...
Open carry is legal here in NH, so I guess I could do so.
But I have a CCW, and see no point in giving away an advantage, so I’ll keep my .40 in the holster under my shirt.
As an aside, the places where you can easily carry are the places you don’t need to. I wonder why...
