Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who was elected to his first term with help from the Tea Party in 2010 and who is sometimes cited as a potential GOP vice presidential pick, lauded the United Nations, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for following their respective visions instead of asserting narrow American interests in a speech today on U.S. foreign policy.
In remarks at the liberal Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., Rubio sketched the advances made globally since the end of World War II as a result of Americas leadership.
The purpose of the institutions we established, from the United Nations to the World Bank and the IMF was to spread peace and prosperity, not to assert narrow American interests, said Sen. Rubio.

In his initial remarks, Sen. Rubio sought to separate himself from some conservatives in the Senate on foreign policy, saying that until recently the general view was that American conservatism believed in a robust and muscular foreign policy, citing Presidents George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan. talbott
But when I arrived in the Senate last year, I found that some of the traditional sides in the foreign policy debate had shifted, said Rubio. On the one hand I found liberal Democrats and conservative Republicans working together to advocate our withdrawal from Afghanistan or staying out of Libya. On the other hand, I found myself partnering with Democrats on a more forceful foreign policy.
So I recently joked, the other day, that today in the U.S. Senate, on foreign policy, the further you move to the right, the likelier you are to move to the left, said Rubio.

Rubio had supported SOPA and PIPA of which he co-sponsored...and only withdrew once there was backlash
I've been saying that Rubio is a protege of Jeb Bush of sorts and has deep ties to Romney, two years ago where many of his Congressional staff are former Romney staff members. People fall for him because he is charismatic and speaks well but he is not who people think he is -- especially if you look into it
Is it just my imagination, or is Marco Rubio receiving pretty much the same treatment from some, that Rick Perry did?
I so wanted to believe in Marco! I campaigned and worked hard to get him elected. Doubts, on my part, are beginning to ascend. Hope we’re all wrong, but I think it’s a pipe dream...at this point.
I think this Rubio fellow is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Of course, I feel the same about Romney.
Name anything that i said is wrong? He has ties to the Bushes and Mitt for awhile-—its the truth
Not sure what to think here. I thought some people here were on crack when they said that Rubio was a RINO. But after reading this....I’m a bit disillusioned.
I am only saying that many similar memes appeared early on in Rick Perry’s campaign.
At that time, those appeared to have come from people seeking to promote Mitt Romney.
Where are these Rubio points coming from, and who stands to benefit if Rubio is demonized?
A Bush, perhaps?
Rubio’s consumed the DC KoolAid, and he LIKES it. That’s the problem with politics these days. Most of us could go up to DC on lofty platforms for reform, but once we get there, we are cowed by the establishment to toe the line or else. Those who tow the line ascend, those who don’t lose their seats.
Look at what happened to Col. West. His entire district was gerrymandered by establishment Republicans in Florida, and now he has to re-run for his seat as a newcomer. No doubt he’ll carry the new district, but he’s not toed the RINO line in DC, and he’s being “punished” for it.
And Rubio would be worse than Biden as VP... how? This is the game, people. Obama/Biden or Anyone Else.
Anybody who has deep ties to Mitt and Jeb can not be a true Tea Party person. It’s like wearing white and dipping yourself with black ink, something has to give
Marco Rubio
born May 28, 1971 in Miami, FL (Meets the Jus Soli Requirement)
Parents were
Mario Rubio born in Cuba, naturalized Nov. 5, 1975.
Oria Garcia born in Cuba, naturalized Nov. 5, 1975.
Parents were NOT US Citizens at the time of his birth (Does NOT meet the Jus Sanguinis Requirement)
Marco Rubio is NOT a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN.
Marco's status is the same as that of Barry Soetoro, aka Barack Hussein Obama, who is NOT a Natural Born Citizen.
It’s not just your imagination. Personally, I think it’s a combination of ignorance, outright moles, and frustration.
Rubio has great potential. I like what he has to say.
The purpose of the institutions we established, from the United Nations to the World Bank and the IMF was to spread peace and prosperity, not to assert narrow American interests, said Sen. Rubio.

I agree 100% with this comment. America IS spreading peace and prosperity. We are not, as some claim (War only for oil!!!), acting only to assert narrow interests.
Sigh...What next? How Demint is a rino and yet another posting about how we are giving away Alaska islands to Russia?
And having a RINO ‘yes man to President Romney instead of a so called true conservative VP that at least we should expect to help “nudge” President Romney back when he goes off into RINOism?
So you want a ‘fake’ just to win the Presidency?
Yes I understand your point.
Not saying Rubio isn’t a RINO. Not saying he is either.
Just trying to figure out, who (not saying you, trying to look wider here) would want to sideline Rubio, and for what purpose?
There’s been a whole lot of Alinsky dynamics on our side this year. Heck all the way back to 2008 when the Mittster’s minions went after Sarah Palin from the word go.
Something is at work here anyway. I’m not accusing you or anyone of being duped or having an agenda.
Not even challenging you on facts.
Just trying to figure out who’s trying to do what, to whom. And why.
:D
I agree with this comment at the article website:
“I can’t believe the comments here. You people need to read what he said again. A little more carefully this time. What I see is Senator Rubio praising America’s leadership and stressing not to give up that role.”
I think Allen West would be a far better choice after reading THIS.
What the hell is WRONG with these people???
These guys can't help it.
