Do homophobic people actually fear their own unconscious feelings? A new study suggests that people who repress their own sexual attraction to the same sex are more likely to express hostility towards gays.
"In many cases these are people who are at war with themselves and they are turning this internal conflict outward," study co-author Dr. Richard Ryan, professor of psychology at the University of Rochester, said in a university written statement.
In four separate experiments conducted in the U.S. and in Germany, each involving an average of 160 college students, researchers attempted to measure any differences between what people say about their sexual orientation and how they actually react. Their findings are published in the April issue of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
For one experiment, researchers used word and picture tests to subliminally prime participants with either the word "me" or "others," and then asking them to place the words and images into "gay" or "straight" categories. A second experiment had participants browse same-sex or opposite-sex photos to test implicit - or unconscious - same-sex attraction. Other experiments measured participants' levels of homophobia through questionnaires or asked about participants' upbringings and their parents' perspectives.
All together, the study showed that participants with parents accepting of homosexuality were more open and aware of their implicit sexual orientation, while those with authoritative parents were more likely to deny their implicit sexual orientation. The researchers found participants who said they were heterosexual but revealed different reactions on their implicit tests were more likely to act with hostility toward gay people.
"In a predominately heterosexual society, 'know thyself' can be a challenge for many gay individuals. But in controlling and homophobic homes, embracing a minority sexual orientation can be terrifying," study co-author Dr. Netta Weinstein,

Anyone ever notice that most Liberal studies end up confirming Liberal bias? Anyone? Ferris?
And I, for one, am suprised to learn that there are FR stormtroopers running around making people click on threads they don't want to read. Thank God they left so you could share with the world your thoughts about how worthless it all was for you.
First they invent the term “homophobia”, to suggest “an irrational fear”.
Then the set about to explain the “fear”.
How ridiculous!
Any serious attempt to label the primary reaction, would include the latin term for “disgust”.
Homodisgustus?

Let me make one thing perfectly clear. I do not hate homosexuals.
I never knew I was homophobic until my son told me he was gay.
Now, I don’t think I was judgmental, other than stating my belief that I thought it was immoral and wrong. The I stated facts on how gay men seem to die sooner than non-gay men.
I’ve got a label I have to live with. I don’t care about my label. I’m concerned with a lifestyle my son won’t live long with.
Whatever it takes to sell the homosexual agenda... Truth is, as experienced by most heterosexuals, homophobia isn’t phobia at all, just extreme disgust at the thought of homosexual sex. It’s no different than numerous other things people find disgusting, and like most those things, it doesn’t mean people want to do it. What this study really shows is that homosexuals and those promoting their agenda are afraid (phobic) of people who don’t validate their sexual perversion.
Gay studies show everyone is just dying to sexually engage with them, especially the ones to tell them to take a hike. People who sexually reject them are only saying that because they really want it, you see.
Did CBS bother to interview Larry Sinclair?
Hate the sin, love the sinner.

That is a University sexuality expert to you. :)
They know people secretly want their sex, espeically when they tell to to get lost!
let’s see if I have this ‘logic’ straight...
unless I’m 100% on board with everything the homos do, I must be a homo?
yea, sure.. you betcha.
the only thing that ‘frightens’ me about homos is what I would do to them if they molested anyone in my family
I just don’t care. One of the guys I grew up with is a turd burglar. I still get along with him just fine but don’t care to hear about his preferences.
Yeah, OK. Makes perfect sense.
Ahhh, the liberal mind. Where up is really down. Down is really up.
True is false. False is true.
Left is right and right is left.
And now, gay is gay and straight is gay. And ambiguous is also gay.
Firstly, for the sake of discussion, let’s say that what the authors of the study are saying is true, that those whose parents are more domineering - this means, probably, that they have only tried to instill morals in their children, however imperfectly - are less likely to acknowledge their inclinations to homosexuality. Does anyone out there note that this actually makes sense when you think about it?
Secondly, let’s admit that it might even be true that there are people out there that feel some kind of temptation in regard to homosexuality, but don’t want to admit it. Again, this makes sense if you think about it.
The real news here is that this research is all being done in regard to matters of the Sixth Commandment, which concerns the proper framework for sexual relations versus other, improper frameworks. Or, to put it another way, valid and God-pleasing sex as opposed to that which He has condemned and forbidden. What if, instead, a great deal of research had been done vis-a-vis the Seventh Commandment, that is, “Thou shalt not steal.” What do you think would have been discovered? Are there people out there whose parents instilled in them the sense that stealing was wrong - in whatever form, and no matter how subtle, sneaky, and self-justifyingly it was explained! - who are tempted to be like those who steal in subtle, sneaky, and self-justifying ways? What do you think? Did the instruction of their parents make it hard for them to associate themselves in their mind with others who openly practice such things so that they took any even harder line toward such people? Duh!!!!!!!
I was just having a similar thought. Homophobia is magically the only revulsion to something that actually is a love response. Just like the logic they use when it gets cold it must be due to global warming or raising corporate taxes strengthens the economy.
The very concept is retarded.
I guess we execute murderers because we are jealous that they took action and we repress ourselves??
I won't ask if you won't tell.
