Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer, a moderate Democrat, says that likely Republican nominee Mitt Romney may have trouble in the general election because his father was born on a polygamy commune in Mexico, the Daily Beast reports.
Schweitzer told the news site that it would be a tall order to position Hispanics to vote for Romney, which he said was kinda ironic considering his family came from a polygamy commune in Mexico. However, Schweitzer continued, Romney is unlikely to talk about his family coming from a polygamy commune in Mexico because women are not great fans of polygamy, 86 percent were not great fans of polygamy.
I am not alleging by any stretch that Romney is a polygamist and approves of [the] polygamy lifestyle, but his father was born into [a] polygamy commune in Mexico, he continued.
Romneys father, the late George Romney, was born in Mexico at a settlement founded by Mormons who had fled the United States anti-polygamy laws. He went on to become the CEO of the American Motor Company, a popular Governor of Michigan and the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under President Richard Nixon.
George Romneys parents were in a monogamous marriage and moved back to the United States when he was still a child. The Romney campaign did not comment on Schweitzers remarks, which were promptly condemned by President Obamas re-election team.

I'm really not sure that the spirit of the independents & the cultists in the Rocky Mountain West was all that better...
I mean, are you hearkening back to the day when the Rocky Mountain West had...
...goldmines (& silvermines) with poor working conditions,
...open gambling,
...frequented saloons that double-served as tucked-away brothels,
...some street justice (gunslinging),
...wide open polygamy with "prophets" "marrying" 14 yo...
...the first 9/11 terrorist act in this country (Sept. 11, 1857) when 120 children & their parents were slaughtered by Mormons at point-blank range...with 17 of their kids kidnapped for a few years & their goods all ransacked & stolen...
...when "prophets" who taught blood atonement & "Adam is God" doubled as territorial governors who covered up this massacre and ensured only ONE person would ever be brought to justice 20 years down the line...
...Or when young Mormon men were castrated...one particular man who wouldn't yield to a regional Lds leader re: giving up his chosen bride-to-be -- and would refuse the mission field...a leader maneuver to get the young man out of the way so he could "move in" on the pretty young wife...
...Is this or the examples above the kind of "glory" of the past you're thinking of?
Or how about the treatment of the Native Americans in the Rocky Mountain West? The Sand Creek massacre by the Cavalry as led by a Methodist officer...
Shall I go on & on...or do you want to remove those rose-colored glasses you have on?
Good point.
All I want is for the candidates for president be born to parents that are American citizens. Is that really too much to ask? They’re everywhere in this country. It’s not like there’s a natural born citizen shortage.
Thank God the Democrats are so strongly opposed to “the politics of personal destruction”.
I was actually referring to an era when a state like Colorado was a lock for Repub. presidential candidate.
How dare George Romney be born in the wrong place! He should be stripped of his chairmanship of AMC and be stripped of his governorship of Michigan retroactively! The nerve!
Obammy's mammy was married to a man who had another wife i.e. polygamist!! Sheesh.
This is one of the reasons Romney was selected for us. To shut up about Obama’s birth certificate. Bring Duncan Hunter back.
Well, the Sand Creek massacre of Native Americans was Colorado.
The gold & silver mines & all that accompanied those towns was Colorado as much or more than any state.
(Well...sure...I mean how can birthers complain about Obama not being born in Hawaii if Mitt Romney was spirit-born" near an inter or outer galactic place called Kolob??? Would Mitt be our first alien (as in "out of this world") POTUS if elected?)
So what?
Yet you are a conspiracy nut if you are looking for a legitimate birth cert. The double standards become more astounding daily.
I read then re-read the article and sure didn’t see any single mention of Perry. How did you conclude a connect?
Yet you are a conspiracy nut if you are looking for a legitimate birth cert. The double standards become more astounding daily.
I suspect this was a pre-emptive move in that direction. They have a *moderate* democrat from a generally conservative state make the initial attack, then, as per the article...
"The Romney campaign did not comment on Schweitzers remarks, which were promptly condemned by President Obamas re-election team."
Should Obama's heritage come under attack from Romney or his surrogates, they will play it up along the lines that Obama has repudiated ridiculous, irrelevant attacks against Romney's father from the democrat side, and they would expect Romney to do the same for Republican attacks on Obama's (genuinely polygamist) father.
I would be greatly surprised if the Governor's Mormon remarks were not made at the bidding of the same Obama campaign that *condemned* them.
HIlarious.
This is not intended for birthers. The same thing with McCain. They needed someone who could have birth problems. No one in their right mind would have voted for McCain. Both men had fathers not born in America. Romney and McCain were selected for us. The one true conservative, Duncan Hunter was thrown down the toilet. Let’s bring him back.
Oh, shut up.
