SPACE SHUTTLE Enterprise ARRIVES IN NEW YORK CITY
Landing at JFK Airport Marks First Leg of Historic Trip to New Home at Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum
The Space Shuttle Enterprise, the original NASA orbiter that paved the way for Americas successful space shuttle program, will officially arrive in New York City and mark the start of its historic journey to its new home at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum when it touches down at John F. Kennedy Airport on Monday, April 23. The shuttle will be welcomed by an assembled gathering of invited guests, including school children from across the tri-state area and elected and community leaders.
The Enterprise will depart Washington DCs Dulles International Airport on the back of a NASA Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA), the same way it and its sister shuttles have made their way around the country during the decades of the Space Shuttle Program.
The flight, in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration, is scheduled to occur between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. EDT. The exact route and timing of the flight depend on weather and operational constraints, including the on-time delivery of space shuttle Discovery to the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum Stephen F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Va., this week. If all goes as planned, the aircraft is expected to fly near a variety of landmarks in the New York metropolitan area, including the Statue of Liberty and the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. When the flyover is complete, the SCA will land at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
The ceremony will include remarks from Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum Co-Chairman Charles de Gunzburg, President Susan Marenoff-Zausner, NASA Deputy Administrator Lori Garver and Executive Director of Port Authority Pat Foye.
Several weeks following the arrival, Enterprise will be demated from the SCA and placed on a barge that will be moved by tugboat up the Hudson River to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in June. The shuttle will then be lifted by crane and placed on the flight deck of the Intrepid where it will be on exhibit to the public starting this summer in a temporary climate-controlled pavilion that will feature innovative elements in an exciting and immersive experience for visitors. The Intrepid continues to work on a permanent exhibit facility to showcase Enterprise that will enhance the museums space-related exhibits and education curriculum.
Stay tuned for more updates regarding the preparation of the Space Shuttle Enterprise and its arrival to New York City on April 23!
All dates and events are subject to change due to weather and operational delays.
Should be in Houston. If any other man had been President, it would be.

Someone has probably stolen the hubcaps by now!
Pity it wasn’t there in time for Easter Break. I guess I’ll go some time this summer and hope I can avoid “day camp” traffic.
Don’t get me started! %$#@!
Schumer stole it. Houston for sure, and the Dayton Air Force Museum should have been considered.
Houston or the space musuem in Huntsville.
Johnson Space Center would’ve made more sense than Huntsville. Too far away from civilization. And they’ve already got death row, and that big statue of Sam Houston. Heh.

Discovery arrived today to take her place in DC
any shuttle going to place not controlled by Democrats ?
I second the USAF museum in Dayton.
F Odummer and every one of his acolytes for all eternity. That Shuttle belongs in Texas and everyone but damned to hell Demonrats KNOWS that shuttle belongs in Texas.
I hope everyone involved in this decision gets an horrible oozing permanent disease on their genitalia.
Not that I’m mad or anything about it.

Ohh, let’s include those involved in the decision to kill the space program both manned and unmanned as well.

Under Obama we can only get astronauts up via the Russians. Comrade Bamster likes that.
Space musuem at Huntsville, AL. where they have Saturn 5,Sat 1, Atlas, Vanguard and most other NASA rockets, Lunar rover, German V-2, Von Braun’s office desk, space capsules, and all kind of space stuff. A lot of this stuff was designed there.
Heh. Oops.
There’s a Huntsville about an hour outside of Houston ... home of a small college and a big prison. Thought maybe there was a museum there I didn’t know about. It didn’t dawn on me until hours after my reply that you might’ve been talking about a different Huntsville.
Haven’t been to Huntsville, AL.

I’ve been to the Sam Houston Museum and the Sam Houston Statue in Huntsville, TX.
In any case...the Museum of Flight in Seattle ALMOST got a Shuttle (as revealed by NASA), but we got the next best thing: the Shuttle Trainer Mockup. Every astronaut has had to use it. And not only that...you’ll actually be able to go inside this one. With the Shuttles, you’ll be lucky to get within 5 feet of it behind a rope.
The first part arrived yesterday: one of the engine bells. I’m told the main fuselage will be delivered via the Super Guppy aircraft. The exhibit should be open by Father’s Day weekend.
After the initial crowds die down, the family and I are going to see it. The kids are excited.
I am aware of Hunstville Texas since I now live in Conroe. They have a prison museum though I haven't been there.
