Now that Rick Santorum is out of the race, what happens to his delegates? Santorum has 285 delegates, according to the latest ABC News delegate estimate, second to Mitt Romneys 661...
...But some of those delegates were never really his. ABC estimates that 78 Santorum delegates, from his wins in states that dont award their delegates Iowa, Colorado, Minnesota, and North Dakota, would have been free to support any candidate at the Republican National Convention in Tampa...
Another two of Santorums delegates were Republican National Committee superdelegates, who will attend the convention by virtue of their positions in the party, and are also free to support whomever they choose in Tampa.

What if Santorum endorses Newt?
I would pass out if that happens.I just dont see santorum doing that however I could see and expect santorum to endorse romney. This thing has fix all over it.
That is what he should do since Romney has Romneycare and began the conversational marriage bill in Massachusetts. It would hurt Romney in the other states.
He actually had more delegates than the official count. I hope he holds them and doesn’t release the. A suspended candidacy is still a candidacy, legally.
Stop 1,144 however we can.
I don’t know. I think the delegates are on their own, but I’m not sure.
CNN is saying that Santorum’s advisor say’s Rick will “rally behind Romney.”
Looks like Newt is on his own to garner the support himself, without Santorum’s help.
So the question still remains. What happens to the delegates?
While the rival candidates often engaged in scathing attacks as they battled for delegates, Brabender maintained Santorum would ultimately rally behind Romney in the general election.
Rick has been very clear from Day One that he would unify behind whoever the candidate is, the Republican nominee, because they certainly are a much stronger and better hope for America than Barack Obama, Brabender said. And he will do that right now with Mitt Romney.
Newt is busy personally reaching out to delegates, so if his stealth plan is underway, then, yes, he can do the math on MO. Win, lose or draw, Newt is trying to get to convention with some firepower.
The GOP-E has collapsed the party Newt crawled through glass for in ‘94. Without Newt renewing it, the Republican Party is dead to us in the future.
No more RINO socialists!
Jedi, I think it’s YOUR reading comprehension that needs help. Don’t attack the messenger.
“We expressed that the senator would be getting out and that we do want to help the Romney campaign, Brabender told CNN Chief National Correspondent John King. It was suggested that we have the two candidates talk to each other, which they did this morning.
He added that Romney recommended to Santorum the two meet soon to talk about ways in which Rick Santorum could help.
I think Newt needs to win 3 more states to qualify for a vote at the Convention. I bet he wins some Dixie states in May.
He is saying this already. He cannot even support Newt. Unbelievable.
“however I could see and expect santorum to endorse romney.”
Oh, no - Brit Hume said that won’t happen. /s
“He is saying this already. He cannot even support Newt. Unbelievable.”
I SO hope that doesn’t happen. But for all those who supported RS even though he enthusiastically endorsed Mittens in ‘08, this should REALLY give them buyers’ remorse. If he were half as conservative as he said he was, he’d turn away from Romney and go with Newt.
(Oh, that’s right - he’s only a SOCIAL conservative, and not totally even that).
>> What if Santorum endorses Newt?
Well that all depends on what’s best for Rick.
ROTFLMAO, they were Bishop Romney delegates the minute they were awarded to Lawyer Ricky.
The only question now is whether Lawyer Ricky wants several big money clients and a bushel of pretty big money clients in return for being a Bishop Romney shill or wants to be the VP on a Bishop Romney ticket.
I fear you are correct.
I almost hope that Rick Santorum does endorse Mitt Romney. That'd send his supporters scurrying to Newt's side in a hurry.
It will also put to rest any delusions about his conservative credentials once and for all.
CNN is saying that someone else is saying that Santorum will say something. This is double-hearsay from an unreliable source.
April 10th 5PM: Anita and I wish Rick and Karen and the entire Santorum family heartfelt congratulations for a tireless and hard-fought campaign. We know the toll the process takes on the candidates and their families, as well as the honor of being in the arena fighting to keep America great and strong. We are keeping their precious Bella in our prayers and we wish Rick, Karen and their family the best in their future together.

April 10th 6PM: Governor Perry will strongly endorse and work for the Republican nominee, since our priority must be to replace President Obama and his destructive policies. As a former U.S. military officer and a proud Aggie, Rick Perry puts a premium on loyalty and therefore today remains Newt Gingrich backer.
