Santorum suspends campaign, but “we are not done fighting” to defeat Obama
Michelle Malkin ^ | 4/10/12 | Michelle Malkin

Posted on 04/10/2012 12:13:31 PM PDT by Lakeshark

Rick Santorum fought hard, he fought well, and he gave voice to a large contingent of grass-roots conservative activists across the country who wanted a candidate who lived the values he preached. He held Mitt Romney’s feet to the fire on health care, challenged Newt Gingrich’s green flirtations and past support for the individual mandate, and took on Ron Paul’s foreign policy extremism. His presence improved everyone else’s game — and that will serve the GOP ticket well this fall, whoever ends up on it.

I voted for Rick in the Colorado Caucus.

Can’t wait to see the groundswell of financial support from Freepers, for the Gingrich campaign.....

So out of a whole list of folks running for the GOP nomination, we got the worst of the worst, Mitt Romney. Herman Cain was very good and my top pick, he was shutdown with useless sex allegations. Then there was Ron Paul, Gingrich and Snatorum. I like Ron Paul and he got ignored, Gingrich even though there are a lot of things I don’t like about him was the next pick then Santorum.

So it is Milk & Cookies boy, Romney, could the GOP done much better than him ? And a lingering question, Romney won in the democrat leaning states. I wonder how many democrats crossed over

This all smells of a setup by the Party establishment and liberals to once and for all deal with the conservatives of the party.

If they win with Romney without substantial conservative support we are given even less positions and influence in the party and maybe out right asked to leave.

If Romney gets massacred it’s our fault and further punished by the establishment and liberals of the party. They do not care to lose the white house especially if they gain control of the senate and keep the house.

Either way this plays the conservatives and the republican party are approaching a reckoning.

Thanks to Santorum for dragging a good part of the field over to the social side of conservatism and putting up a great fight.

TO all those here who showed up on every Santorum thread throwing around sophomoric insults because Rick wasn't their guy, kiss my *ss.

But it’s not over. If Newt gets Rick’s delegates, he can beat Sketch

ya....FReepers should take their ball and go home.

Neither Jesus Christ nor Ronald Reagan will be on the ballot in November, yet nobody here recognizes America’s first priority is getting Obama out of the White House.

I don't think so. The Conservatives NEED to get behind a single candidate before the primary begins. The Teaparty needs to hold a convention the YEAR BEFORE Primary season starts and nominate a SINGLE conservative candidate.

The establishment had 'their' candidate well ahead of time - conservatives need to play the same game - lesson learned.

With the race down to Willard and Newt the best move is for Rick to call on Sarah and Perry, perhaps another to coalesce into a campaign for Newt. With the various factions of the conservatives and republicans coming together they can thwart the undercurrent of the go-pees presumption of Willard is the winner.

Picture Newt, Santorum, Palin and Perry together on a campaign stage beating up on Hussein Obama.

Willard’s mealy mouth approach will wither and fade behind the roar of the cheering crowds.

Malkin hates Newt so much she just cant’ stop attacking him, even after her guy is out of the race. She mentions Newt’s “green flirtations,” but what about Rick’s big spending, big government ways, Michelle?

There are a few of us who realize that a trainable RINO is still vastly preferable to a hard core Marxist.

Hyperble much? No, it's not a word but it fits.

That said, there is huge support for Newt and overwhelming support for getting obammy out.

"Mr. Gingrich immediately made an appeal for Mr. Santorum’s supporters, asking them to join his struggling bid."

Yup, there's no stopping Newt from winning the nomination now. (That's if you assume 300-350% of Santorum voters switch to Newt).

And in other news, 67 years ago this month, with Soviet troops closing to within a few miles of his bunker, another political leader was overjoyed to realize that the fortunes of war had suddenly reversed and victory was guaranteed when the international radio news reported FDR's death.

Michelle is a great asset to conservatism. I do think she made a mistake in being so anti-Newt, much like I think the Newt supporters were way too anti-Santorum.

I figured out a long time ago that neither Newt nor Santorum by themselves were going to deny Romney the nomination, they needed to stick together. Unfortunately, they didn't.

I don't know who does the Santorum ping list, but I thought this was a good piece his supporters would appreciate.

There are a few of us who realize that a trainable RINO is still vastly preferable...

And there are a few wiser still who realize that a RINO will be a RINO whenever, wherever, and however he chooses despite all supposed "training" to the contrary.

The only correct way to "train" a RINO with any certainty is to use a locomotive; preferably head-on.

Take a look around FR since Rick bailed.

Many, many posts, including the site owner, wanting to take their ball and go home.
