FOX News Radio just said that Santorum is going to announce a halt to his campaign within the hour. A rally in Gettysburg is said to have been changed to a press conference.
I have had it up to here with the name calling of Rick Santorum....
YOU have turned me against Newt FOREVER!
When I am crying, you will be laughing.
ENJOY YOUR LAUGH!
I just want you to know I don't think any of those people are laughing at you or at Rick. I think they are still geared for the battle and know time is short.
As for the name-calling of Rick, I agree with you. And I, for one, called him plenty of names myself, though I had been trying to diminish that as of late, as it became more clear who the real enemy was.
But you have to be fair - even if you are hurting - and there have been plenty of names and invective hurled at Newt on these pages. I know myself when I posted purely informative, positive posts about Newt with no mention of Santorum I would get back - serial adulterer - personal baggage... etc etc.
In other words, we have all gone overboard in the heat of the battle. And I am so sorry for your loss. I can't but think that you supported Rick as much I support Newt - and should the same happen to Newt - I don't know - I don't even want to think about what I would do - or how I would feel. I am just amazed you are here in the fray. You are made of stronger stuff than me.
God bless you. God heal your broken heart. I have no doubt it is broken. There are so few people to believe in in this country and this world, whenever one of them goes down, no matter how much we disagree, it is a true loss.
Just keep believing in America. I am praying for the peace and health of the Santorum family.
God bless you.
Guen, until 2:30 pm today, I had to come to grips with the fact that it might be all over for Newt. What I said is all true.
I am no hypocrite—I was not a supporter of Rick Santorum, and tried to not to badmouth him. I just think he was not as strong a candidate as Newt.
But there is a new political reality since 2:30 pm today.
Freeperdom is full of wailing and gnashing of teeth right now, that Romney is inevitable, or that Obama is inevitable.
I am not ready to join them. Not yet.
The new political reality for conservatives in AMerica is this:
Newt is the only conservative standing right now.
We have a choice to make.
Either support Newt or embrace your inner Willard.
I’m sorry Rick didn’t stay in , for your sake. I know you really liked him.
So yes, when all calms down, I will ask you to vote for Newt.
Until there are no conservatives standing.
And I would never laugh at you.
Best to you, Guen.
Standing to the last man.
Go, Newt. Stand, fella.
Thank you.
Hope not. She’s such a sweet thing.
Hope not. She’s such a sweet thing.
Hope not. She’s such a sweet thing.
Quote from Todd Starnes:
“GOP gearing up to nominate yet another moderate — because it worked so well in 2008”
Well said, Mr. Starnes!
Not a criticism. It was truly humorous.
Ping to #48.
I guess we can add "quitter" to the list, huh?
Agree, Exit82.
Santorum is a good man, there’s no doubt about it. In a perfect world, he would have been my president.
However, we don’t live in a perfect world, and the president has to be president of SO many different types of people.
My condolences go to Santorum supporters. I have not been too great about it either, and I know their hearts are breaking. My heart has been breaking for Newt — but Newt seems not to be any less “CHEERFUL” than he has been, so I’ve sort of stayed neutral and just waited, while continuing to admire Newt for his steadfastness.
I do hope everyone could rally behind him, now, however. ABO does not have to be Romney now — it never has had to be.
Again, my sympathy to Santorum supporters today.
I’ll have to agree with Lazlo, and for the reasons he gave, as well as a couple of my own.
Romney isn’t going to get away with bashing Obama as he did with his fellow Republican candidates.
AND what a mistake the GOP establishment made, once AGAIN.
ONLY Mitt and Ron were on the VA ballot, even Rick Perry’s money didn’t get him on.
I hear in one state, or more, districts were changed so that Romney would have more delegates in the primary.
Sounds to me, like the fix was in. Why are we even having a primary? Reagan was the only one, in recent history, who could beat the Republican establishment machine.
So, you're telling me that, a handful of immature Newt supporters have got you to the place where you're going to flush your last shot at getting somebody other than Romney; that you're folding your Conservative hand over ill-will toward a small knot of people Newt doesn't even KNOW? All it took was some ill-mannered people Newt never met to get you to, in essence, pitch your support to Romney?
REALLY?
Please reconsider! Conservatives are down to ONE LAST SHOT at getting someone other than Romney for the Presidential race, and that ONE LAST SHOT is convincing Santorum to pitch his delegates to Newt so Newt MIGHT have a fighting chance in Tampa. Failing that, Conservatism is OUT in 2012, and the future REALLY looks bleak for the next four years. I've NO CONFIDENCE AT ALL in Romney.
Now, of course Santorum might not back Newt even if a bunch of us get through to his campaign asking/begging/imploring him to, but he will be even LESS likely to do it if he doesn't hear anything from the grass roots.
The bottom line for each one of us is this: If we remain silent, and Santorum backs Romney; we wear the albatross. If we tell him, "Get behind Newt," and he doesn't; HE wears it.
I'm not going to be found this November with a rotting bird carcass hanging around my neck. I've heard crap in these forums from Newt supporters, too, but none of those FReepers is Newt Gingrich; they don't speak for him.
But I DO speak for ME, and I'm telling Santorum -- on behalf of this nation and all I hold dear -- "Give your delegates and support to Gingrich."
All I'm asking you is to not confuse your disgust with some of the Newt supporters on FR with the candidate, himself. Please think this over, and join in the effort to get Santorum to back Newt.
I wonder if this has to do with the terrible health troubles his daughter has had lately?
I hope not, for the entire family’s sake!
Thanks for all the hard work on the ping list, mate. Not gonna change my tagline just yet though.
